I also recommend the Vaccine book by Dr. Sears. You can get it at bordes or ordering through the www.askdrsears.com website.

hello again ladies.
I am pregnant with my second boy. My husband and I are over the moon about our pregnancy but both he and I are concerned about vaccines. With our first boy who is now 4, we kept him up to date on all his shots. Asking little to no questions about what effects could really happen once administered these vaccines. Now I am more educated about it and we both feel that we still want to immunize our next child, but to space it out further apart rather then getting tons of shots at once.
My question is, is their any resource out there that can help us get some kind of schedule?
Also, I havn't spoken to our pediatrican about this, but from what I understand, some can get very touchy about this subject and even sometimes try to intimidate parents into giving vaccines on a certain timeline.
What have you moms tried? Has it worked so far and what is your story on this??
thanks again ladies

The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears is also a good resource. He's the Dr. from the site listed above. The book doesn't give a schedule but it allows you to make informed decisions.
I've opted to give my girl 1 or 2 shots at a time with 3-4 weeks in between. My Dr. works with me, her view is that it's most important that the child receives the shots whatever the schedule. I will say that I need to track the vaccines very carefully because the staff at the Dr.'s office gets confused as to what's next.. I'm also very firm that a 3 in 1 shot is three vaccines therefore that's it for the day.
One other thing to think about....Some hospitals give the hepatitus vaccine when the baby is born. My view is that the child is to young. My Dr. agreed and I didn't get that done in the hospital. I have had friends where it was "just done" in the hospital as part of procedure. SO you may want to check on that...
Hi Nancy
I took a vaccine class at The Holistic Midwifery Institute in AnnArbor ###-###-####) I was very happy with. They might have a suggestion for a schedule.
Gary Null has a great sounding book I keep planning to read (b4 we do any shots)"Germs, Biological Warfare, Vaccinations: What You Need to Know".
I'd say call and talk to your ped, if he has a problem w/ spacing them out get a new one. And tell him why! Most people aren't told vaccines are an option, and you get pushed around if you don't know. So good for you breaking through that.
Good luck! A. H
It looks like there are some great suggestions here that even I will be looking into! I would also recommend checking into a pediatrician that also practices homeopathic/ alternative medicine. Most of these doctors understand and do not 'pressure' or intimidate. They understand your concern and support your feelings.
I am still with my current ped, but I am still debating the back/ forth idea of leaving to go to a doc that practices and believes in natural medicine (especially as I respond so well to it, and my doctor still does not understand.).
My son just turned four, but with his shots I spread them out so as not to stress him, either. It was hard as he knew what was happening, so my heart just broke, but I did not get the grief from my doc about it. I also feel getting the three- four shots at once shocks and is way too toxic to the system. (then I promptly give my son a homeopathic remedy to relieve the toxicity from the vaccine, without compromising the effectiveness of it.)
Also you don't have to get all of the vaccines so research them all. For example my two children have never had the chx pox vac. I just felt it was new when they were giving it and not enough historial data and they did not get it. We have friends whose children have had no vaccines and they are in school and healthy. I am not advocating no vaccines. If you choose not to get a vaccine as they get into Daycare or into school there are waivers you fill out.
I too have read by spreading them out there is less risk to the child. I have had no issue with my doctor about spreading them out which just means an extra visit or two. Also my doctor was supportive of my decision to miss the chx pox vacc and to spread out the visits, she probably over explained things to me to make sure I understood but she definately let me be pationate about my desires.
Good luck.....
Hey girl,
I'm in the same boat. Check out thedailyhammond.blogspot.com/2008/dr-sears-alternate-vaccine-schedule.html to see a couple of schedules. My friend also recommended that we research Dr. Kenneth Block's book: Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, Allergies, ADHD and Asthma (also referred to as the 4 A's). This book was at the Ypsi library. His website is 4ahealing.com
If you are a person of faith, stay prayerful and ask for guidance. God will happily direct you to what is best.
Take care!

www.askdrsears.com has an atternative vaccine schedule that you can print out. I just went to my pediatrician and asked to only do half of the vaccines at a time. That meant that my baby would go for a check up every month, and get shots every month. I have been very happy with that decision, and my pediatrician didn't give me a hard time at all. I think it is very important to still give vaccines, but this way put me at ease about giving them. I also give my baby Tylenol when he gets the shots to avoid fever.
My two recommendations (Dr. Bock's 4-A book: "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Allergies and Asthma" and Dr. Sears' "The Vaccine Book") were already listed so I just want to second them! Both are awesome sources. I've used a combination of the info in both of them to craft an alternate vaccine schedule. Neither doctor is anti-vaccine (as much of the mainstream media would like you to think) but they feel that not all kids can handle the agressive schedule. And the 4-A book offers a lot of information on how important it is to give our kids healthy, nutritional diets and to steer away from unnatural food additives, colorings, and flavorings. Another good (albiet older) source is Dr. Stephanie Cave's book "What your doctor is not telling you about vaccines" (or something like that). Dr. Bock refers to Dr. Cave as one of the pioneers in looking at toxins as they relate to Autism, ADHD, Allergies and Asthma. The 4-A book provides tons of real-life clinical situations that make it almost impossible to believe that vaccines don't at least contribute to the 4-A disorders (along with other toxins our kids are exposed to as well as genetics).
As for how to "handle" your pediatrician... if she or he gives you a hard time about wanting to spread out vaccines, I would highly recommend switching. With my daughter, I did no more than 1 vaccine at a time (with the exception of a couple that have shown little to no averse reactions when given together) with at least a month in between so her immune system could react and recover. It did require monthly doctor visits for almost the first two years of her life but it was totally worth it for me. When I was just coming in for a vaccine without a doctor visit, my pediatricians office allowed me to call that day and then just show up when it was convenient for the most part. So I was able to do after-work visits and not have to take extra time off. And I never gave her any shots while she was sick (even with a cold - most doctors will say she's fine as long as there's no fever but I feel that even when they have a cold, their immune system is still working so you don't want to overload it with a vaccine!) I had started to give her the Hep B shots but after more research, decided to discontinue. I still haven't gotten her Chicken Pox vaccine or her MMR so I had to sign vaccine waiver forms for her to be in daycare (she's 27 months old). My pediatrician has been very supportive of my decision which has removed a huge weight off of my shoulders. As Dr. Bock says in his book "sometimes, mothers just know".
I'm definitely not against vaccines, I'm just against the agressive schedule that most pediatricians try to push on families. And I really don't understand teh need for some of the vaccines other than it's convenient for parents if their kids don't get sick (like with Chicken Pox since it's not deadly). It's OK for a lot of kids but not all. Good luck and GOOD FOR YOU to want to educate yourself!!!
