I would rely on a lactation consultant for this one. You need hands on help with yourself and your son to work on this skill. Congrats on the new baby and I hope the nursing can be successful!!
He couldn't stick his tongue out past his gums, so we got the frenectomy (sp?) where they cut under the tongue and now he's nursing mostly without chewing on me, but only on my left side. He still isn't using his tongue like he should on my right side. How do I get him to use his tongue?
Thank you for all the help, we're doing great and he's nursing wonderfully now.

he has to re-learn how to use his tongue... there are exercises for this. as someone already mentioned you need to see a lactation consultant or a speech language therapist who knows about breastfeeding.

If you're still looking for help...you could also try Cygnus Lactation. Jeanne Cygnus is a private lactation consultant in downtown Mundelein who is really helpful. Her website is www.cygnuslactation.com. Also check and see if your hospital has a group that meets, I know Condell has one that meets (free) every tue am with a certified lactation consultant from the mat ward floor.
Hope this helps.
go to llli.org for La Leche League and contact a local leader for info. I know Margaret, the leader in Kankakee/Bourbonnais had a son who was tongue tied and would probably be a great contact for you.
Lactation consultants are great but cost money-- LLL is free!
