In Need of Infant Daycare Beginning March 2008,,,,Am I Looking Too Early?

I am a first time mom, and will need to go back to work after my baby is born. I live in the Countryside area and work over in Westshore of Tampa. I have gotten the list of providers, but have found none are going to commit a spot this far out..and those who would are booked. Does anyone have any recommendations of providers and for those already mom's when did you secure your daycare location.

What can I do next?

All of the daycares I checked into when I was pregnant had a waiting list so I'm not sure what providers you are talking to. My son has been in various daycares in your area/Westchase & westshore. The problem is that not many takes infants or are very expensive. As for finding a place close to work, the only one that met my standards was Time of Wonder on Eisenhower (I work in Westshore too). They take infants and I'm sure have a waiting list. Though it wasn't my first choice, it was the best for the price. The centers in Westchase were too expensive at the time.

Even if you are told the center is booked, still put your name on the waiting list. Many parents find other care before they get a call, so your name might get bumped up on the list.

I would start looking now and maybe call in Dec. to hold a spot?
Some of these daycares have a long waiting list.

Hi! I started looking very early and found that daycare centers are more willing to commit to that extended lead time. I would recommend finding a center you like and ensuring you get a spot there. Then take your time finding another in-home provider. If you don't find one you like, at least you have a spot at a center you like. And they can ALWAYS fill spots - there aren't many places that take infants so there are usually wait lists that are fairly long!

Good luck!

Are you set in your mind about a daycare? What about personal in home daycare?

I would be interested in in-home daycare if your interested.

I can pass a background check and I have 4 YRS experience as a NYS Critical Care Technician. I live less that 3 minutes from the local Fire Department.

I live on Ulmerton Road and US19N.

I would give your little one the personalized attention and one on one attention you would expect as a mom.

Please email me: ____@____.com

Thanks,
S.

Find something close to your work! I worked in a preschool for several years, and I know lots of parents look in the area they live, as opposed to work. It is best to find something closer to your work, just in case something bad happens you can be there ASAP. Plus, you can spend time chatting and bonding with your child on your commute home (even though your child will be very young- it is something to think about for the future). Good luck!!!
