My infant son was recently diagnosed with SVT - he was in the hospital for a week and was discharged on two medications, propranolol and digoxin. His doctors have said that he will likely outgrow this condition around 1 year of age. Has anyone else had this experience or know of anyone who has this condition and did they outgrow it?

What can I do next?

I had to take propranolol on and off for years as a child and then once again as an adult. When I was a child it didn't scare me as much as the racing heart as an adult. I went several years without this problem and then it happened again as an adult but it seems to be under control now. I would wake up in the middle of the night with my heart going wild for no reason. I always have a presciption on hand as needed. I wouldn't worry too much I am 33 and doing just fine. I am very physically active, work full time and a mom and my ticker is still working.

Hi K..
I looked up SVT and found this site http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/106/25/e206
My youngest daughter was born with multiple heart defects called tetralogy of fallot. Where do you live? I have found a group called Mended Little Hearts that is a support group for people affected by CHD. I have started one in the Southern Indiana/Kentucky area. If I can do anything at all for you to help you through this, please do not hesitate to let me know.
This is suprising news I am sure to you and your family. I do wish you the very best. Please do not hesitate to call if you need anything. I mean that.

My husband is a cardiac nurse. He said that your heart has a certain electrical pathway and sometimes they will have a accessory pathway which make the heart beat too fast to keep up. He says meds usually take care of the problem and the only other way to fix it is doing an oblation which what that does is form scare tissue to block that extra pathway.
Sometimes babies are born with a heart murmer which is an extra opening in the heart. That usually grows up and so will the accessory pathway to the heart. They will probably watch it closely and 9 out of 10 times it will fix itself and your baby will be perfect. It is kind of like the 2 soft palets in the head when they are born.... they grow up. So do things like murmers and svt.
You will be ok.k
Good luck to youl

Are you talking about Superventricular Tachycardia? I'm an adult with that, since birth, but corrected with surgery. I'm actually PSVT, a form of SVT. So if we're talking about the same thing, message me, we can exchange e-mail addresses and talk it about a little more.

Best wishes and congratulations on your new baby!
