So What Happened?

Thank you to all that responded. We took him to the Dr. today and he said that his head was not severe enough to require the helmet and that he would grow out of it on his own.

Hi. I have a 10 year old that had Hydrocephalis when she was orn. After the shunt placement the nurses had to leave her on one side in order for her head to heal and this caused her head to become misshaped. We had her in a helmet at the age of 2&3, but by then she was old enough to take it off and it would just fly across the room after about 5 minutes. I understood the whole idea and would greatly suggest that if they are saying to use it, then do it. It won't hurt your baby and he will be better off in the end. Since my daughter was older and able to remove the helmet, her head is still not corrected and there is nothing we can do about it now.

My little guy had to wear a helmet for 4 months. He had Plagiocephaly. Getting him the helmet was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. He has a perfect round head now! I would go to cranial technologies, that is wear I went and love them!

My son has just started wearing the helmet. He is 9 months old and has plagiocephaly. He has had it for a week. Getting him and myself adjusted to him wearing all the time was fairly easy. He did end up getting a rash on his forehead and they will be making son=me adjustments to it, but just in the week he wore it I already started to see a difference. I would highly suggest going through with it if you have good insurance. They usually cost around $4,000.
When deciding if I was going to put my son into one I felt like it was the same as if he would have to have braces on his teeth when he gets older, and I would do that!

yes, my daughter had this and it wasn't as bad as it sounds. The helmut will leave a gap at the part of the head that is flat so it can grow into the gap. The baby doesn't wear it too long usally less than a year but you have to start early, like now for it to work. We live in the woodlands and used Dr. Teighberger (I know I'm misspelling it) downtown. All he did was made the prescription then you have to go to another Dr. who makes the helmut and does the fittings and such. My insurance Cigna paid for it with no problems. The helmut worked well.
