My one year old daughter is in the process of potty training.. not really in the process.. She understands pee pee and what it means.. She has her personal potty so she knows the deal. I do not force it but im glad she gets the point from her other sibling.. She recently started itching today her diapers she snatches off the cloth ones she doesnt bother occasionally i use rubber... Her vagina has swollen ever since her itching phase earlier today with a streak ofwhite discharge. Should i follow up with an emergency room or try a home therapy and go from their... Please no rude comments im not dumb slow or stupid but however still a beginner in the parent stage.. Anything that can help me avoid making another mistake So any advice is good for me pros and cons. Thanks and again i say she is NOT FORCED on the potty she just follows her sibilings whom help her to be independent.. Geesh!

What can I do next?

I would get those thick training underwear....i only used the rubber pants when we went out. My first was completely potty trained at 18 months. My second was 2. My 15 month old is now getting me diapers to change her and telling my when she goes....she's about ready. I do not agree you have to wait until kids are 2 1/2 or 3 to start.

Rubber diapers????

No wonder she itches.
It traps moisture, does not breathe, and some people are allergic to Latex rubber and it can cause a ton of skin issues. Can you imagine wearing rubber panties and getting itchy? Skin there is very sensitive etc.

Again, rubber diapers?
Get her properly diagnosed by a Pediatrician.

And, she sounds young.

Yes, take her to the ER.
She is swollen.
And she could get or already has, an infection.

My goodness I don't think I've ever read such mean responses. I would put a regular diaper on her with some diaper cream and take her to the pediatrician in the morning. My first son was 18 months and fully potty trained, and this was with absolutely no pushing from me. I kept putting him in pull ups because I couldn't fathom a child this young could be actually potty trained but he was. My 1 year old daughter now loves sitting on her big girl potty, and does occasionally go, and I sure don't think that's crazy. I didn't see the above poster saying that she was forcing potty training, or making her sit there for certain periods of time, she's just doing what her older sibling is doing... I've never heard of rubber diapers, maybe this was a typo? We should maybe learn more before judging?

Well, now you know that you cannot use rubber diapers anymore. Big mistake, mom. You aren't actually potty training. You are trying to "catch her" when you think she might go.

You had better take her to ER before she ends up with a blood infection.

Now, mom, I don't know who told you that your baby doesn't like underwear. Your baby sure didn't. You need to take some parenting classes before your baby ends up in the hospital. I'm not trying to beat you up here, but I am going to say flat out that if you don't start learning about childhood development and how to take care of a baby, you will end up in trouble with social services.

Your baby comes first. Not you. Wanting to potty train a one year old is only ALL ABOUT YOU. Stop that immediately, get her to the ER, tell them why your baby's bottom is this way so that they don't think someone has been molesting her, and do exactly what they say to do in order to get her bottom healed. Then go back to DIAPERS. No potty training efforts until she is between 2 1/2 and 3 years old.

HURRY. GO NOW.

Dawn

I don't think this warrants an emergency room visit. Let those doctors handle the real emergencies. I agree to stop using the rubber pants - those trap heat/moisture which make a perfect home for all kinds of itchies (yeast, bacteria, etc.).

If it were me, I would let my child run around without a diaper on to keep things "aired out" (dry) and only put a diaper on for overnight (or not, depending on if you feel like changing her bedding) and call her regular doctor tomorrow morning.

Call her doctor who will probably want to see her. White discharge sounds like a yeast infection, they'll prescribe an anti-fungal.

Library or bookstore for the book "what to expect the first year" and "what to expect the toddler years". She is a baby and will develop at her own pace. Stop trying to push her to be older. She is not her other siblings. She is not ready to potty train, she is not physically capable of pulling her pants up and down by herself. Put her diapers back on and stop for at least another year.

Don't you have a pediatrician?
I would never think to go to an ER for this.
Broken bones, lot's of bleeding, unconsciousness, convulsions, high (>104) fever - ER for sure.
But for itching?
Um, no.
Not unless my child fell headlong into a patch of poison ivy and had blisters welling up all over his body.
My guess would be a yeast infection or jock itch although a urinary tract infection is also possible.
Her pediatrician can test her urine to determine if an antibiotic is needed.
You don't want a urinary tract infection going up into her bladder and maybe up into her kidneys - so make an appointment with your doctor asap.
Try putting a cup of plain yogurt in her bath water and do not use bubble bathes - they can irritate.
Make sure she drinks plenty of water - keep her well hydrated.
Wash her hands often.
When she uses her potty, be sure you wipe her clean - she probably can't clean herself very well and her hands can spread e-coli.

I I don't think this is a dumb question. I don't think you need the ER. Take her to the ped. The white streak makes me think yeast but I would never give a baby full strength adult meds without a doctor's okay as she is much smaller, so needs a much smaller strength. Also, some little girls do get irritated down there easier. Switch to a delicate soap and after you get the all clear, maybe use some aquafor down there.

Take her to the pediatrician and get an antibiotic. Perhaps, it's a bit early for the potty training thing...if she is actually one year old. (I'm not sure if that's a typo or not.)

First, ignore all the snarky and judgmental responses! I'd gently wash the area with lukewarm water and just leave her diaperless for a while so she can air out. I'd hold off on an any creams since you don't know whether its bacterial or fungal and you don't want to keep it warm and moist. I'd use disposable diapers for now. Call your Dr. and get her in asap. Keep an eye out for a fever and make sure she has wet diapers (if she is so swollen she's having trouble urinating that is an IMMEDIATE emergency). A lot of pediatrician offices have a Dr. on call after hours that you can call when you're concerned about something but not sure whether it warrants an ER visit. My insurance (BCBS) also has a nurse hotline that I have utilized several times for advice when my ped. office was closed. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon!

I agree with Beth G. put a disposable diaper with cream on her and take her to the doctor. If she cant get into her doc, then go to emergency. Don't wait too long, it could get worse and more paunful for her. And wow, other people really are judgemental on here!I had to take my 3 year old in to ER for a urinary tract infection before because her doctor wasnt available quicky enough and my girl was in pain.

It sounds like you're using cloth diapers with a rubber cover.

It also sounds like your kiddo has a significant yeast infection, one that will probably need prescription meds to treat. Call your pediatrician first thing in the morning for an appointment. If you don't have one, take her to a walk in clinic.

In the mean time, she's just too young for potty training. At one year old, she's not cognitive able to identify the sensation of a full bladder/bowel as a sign to go to the potty. Better put that idea off until she's closer to 2.5 years old.

If she's got yeast & you're using cloth diapers, those diapers will need tone treated & washed before using them again. I've never cloth diapered so I'm not sure how you treat them, but any cloth diapering website should be able to help you. Switch back to disposable diapers until both her yeast/rash clears and your diapers have been treated. Better yet, let her bottom be open to air as much as possible.

I think you should give the Dr a call and speak to the nurse. S/he could advise you on whether you should bring her in or try some home remedies and monitor it.
If it is bothering her I would set her in the shower and gently rinse her off.
