Introducing Baby to Solids

Good morning mommies. My daughter has started eating solids. We're on rice cereal and have slowly started vegetables. My question: how long do you stay on stage 1 foods? When do you transition to stage 2? Do you go through the whole spectrum and then when you've established there are no allergy problems, proceed to stage 2, or should you stay on stage 1 for some time? At what point do you then transition to table food? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have a 12mo girl and she was on stage 1 for quite a long while. Stage 2 she was picky on the selection and we are just now doing stage 3. Which at this point I feel stage 3 can be skipped if you child will eat table food. At stage 2 it's great to introduce real banana's, they mash up really nice and babies love them. You can also thicken stage 1 food by adding a little cereal. But overall I feel it all depends on your child. My daughters just started eating table food.

My first did table food very early. (As long as it was not spicy, salty, or an allergen, and it was cut up really small.) She didn't like baby food too much, so we didn't push it. With my second I made some of the baby food, so it was whatever consistence I made it.

Buy this book: Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron

It shows you step by step how to feed your baby and when to introduce certain fruits and veggies. I made all my daughters food homemade and followed the program in the book. My daughter now at the age of 2&1/2 loves all veggies and friut. It is really easy to blend the food and freeze it in ice cube trays.

Whn i sarted my son on solids i started with 2nd foods because i didnt realize that the number meant something (i thought the 2 meant two packages of food oops!) We had no problem. It is just a little thicker. Whenever you think shes ready for the switch do it! she'll do great :) 3rd foods were hard for my evan to get used to though!

When in doubt ask the pediatrician. However, my baby is 5 months old and I started her on rice cereal for a few weeks about 5 weeks ago then I slowly introduced stage 1 foods. (That is of course before I realized it was easier and healthier to make her baby food myself) I would say give her the same thing for about 2-3 days just to make sure she is not allergic before you move on to the next food. I see that Stage 2 is alot of the same as stage 1 but just bigger portions. I think between 9-12 months is when you can give her table food. Check out the books by Annabel Karmel. I have the "Top 100 Baby Purees" and I love this book.

My daughter is 6.5 months and also recently started eating solids. She has tried all of the stage 1 foods and is a pretty big eater so I have gone to Stage 2 and even Stage 3 because as someone already said they seem to be pretty much the same thing only bigger portions. So they are a better value. I just spoon out a little and put whatever she doesn't eat in the fridge. Also at our 6 month visit our pediatrician said it's ok to start feeding soft foods like ripe banana and avocado. We did and she loves it. Also loves Cheerios.
