Moms, my husband and I have battled with this for 1/2 years now. We've got him to start the night in his bed...with at least getting up 5 times. Once alseep he will come crawl in bed with us at 3-5am and at that point I'm sleeping too hard to get up and move him.
Any ideas or suggestions???

What can I do next?

You can reward him for staying in his bed all night - little trinkets or whatever. Or, get that baby gate out (a tall one) and put it on his bedroom door. :) We have this and a baby monitor in the room so that if our dd really needs us, she can just talk to us and we'll come get her to go to the bathroom or whatever. We also have a baby lock on our bedroom door and sleep with it shut.

Good luck.

ps. our dd is 4

Our counselor said stop rewarding him. No carrying him, no letting him in bed. Give him a hug and reassure him and take his hand and walk him back to bed.
We did this and it worked so long as we kept it up. When he gets sick, he still sleeps with us, so this week we are back to braking the cycle, again. Also, reassure him that everyone rests easiest in their own bed. You are not being mean and love his snuggles, but you want him to get the best possible rest so everyone can have a great day.
Good luck

I killed myself for 3 years putting my daughter back in bed virtually every nite. I was 100% consistent and yet it never worked. She's not a very good sleeper so this is an area I conceded. As long as she goes to sleep in her own bed, we let her come in a few hours later. We do reward her for sleeping in her own bed, but apparently it's not worth it. I have found that when it's cold, she sleeps more soundly and is less likely to come in. We've also considered letting her dog sleep with her since the issue is she just would rather not sleep alone. Hope this helps!

We made the mistake of letting our first born sleep with us and it was very hard to get him to stay in his bed when he was old enough to, not to mention we weren't sleeping well with him in bed with us! We made a pallet on the floor on my side and told him if he came up he had to sleep on the pallet or go back to his bed. He liked the pallet just fine (we used one of those mini spiderman fold out couches - Walmart $25). We always started him off in his own bed and eventually he stayed there all night and we put the pallet away. My sister did the whole walk them back to their bed thing, she was exhausted for a month. We did that with my younger one, but because we didn't start off letting him sleep with us (lesson learned with older one!) it didn't take long before he got the message and stayed in his bed. The pallet is a nice compromise, he gets to be with you and feel safe but not interrupt your sleep! Good Luck!

My twin girls did this, and I put a gate in there doorway. That way they could either cry themself to sleep, but bein there room, or play or get back into there bed.

Other than a gate in the doorway, wake up and put him back. If you don't he'll just keep doing it. He knows that if he waits long enough, you'll let me stay. In essence he's trained you to let him crawl in bed with you late at night. Good luck!!

I agree with Melissa. My son is 4 and has been doing this all of his life. He was a very sick baby and I would always have him sleep with me because of him being sick then when he got old enough enough to stand up in his crib he would cry until I got him in the middle of the night. I am a single mom and we share a room but he has his own bed but he still wakes up and climbs in my bed and does it at dad's too when he stays the night with dad.
Enough the moment as long as you can..

He wants the cuddles. I'd let him stay. He'll grow out of it.
