I had a mirena iud inserted 9 months ago and I just took a pt test and it came back positive. I dont know what to do. I dont have insurance. I am scared because of what I have read on the internet about miscarriage and iud's. Should I go to the ER, get another pt test, or go see my obgyn that I saw from my last 2 pregnancy's. Geez, i am really freaking out, I dont know if I can handle a miscarriage and I dont know how I would handle three kids so close together. Please, any advice would be appreciated. Has anyone else been in this situation before?

What can I do next?

My advise to you is not to wait but to head to the hospital. I was told by my OB when I had mine put in to go to the hospital if I ever had a positive test & they are closed I need to immediately go to the hospital. I hope everything goes well.

Remember, if you truly feel you don't want kids that close together in age, there's always adoption. I know it's hard to imagine, but there are so many child-less couples out there wanting a child that you would make a family very happy and make life with yours easier. Just putting it out there. We adopted ours and are infertile. There are so many infertile people out there. We want a brother or sister for our son and I wish I could get pregnant with birth control, let alone after 8 years of using nothing. Please don't get offended. I understand how stressful it would be having 3 under 5 years. I've been a nanny my whole adult life and I wouldn't even want 2 under 5 after watching kids that close together in age. I commend you for having a 2.5 and 9 month. What a job!

Go to your doctor that you have seen for your last pregnancies. They know you best. Perhaps they can work out a payment plan for you. At any rate, you need to know what is going on inside your body ASAP. Having kids so close together is a daunting task, but doable. My twins were 8 months old when I became pregnant with my 3rd little boy. It isn't easy, but it is worth it.

Oh Y., I can only imagine the rush of emotions you are feeling right now, especially having read some of your previosu posts about how often your husband is gone to work etc. Just remember that no matter what happens you will be able to handle things. You should check to see if you qualify for Medicaid during your pregnancy. Also, I am wondering if planned parenthood could help some. They may at least be able to help to insure that you are indeed pregnant. And remember, county hospitals can not refuse to treat regardless of insurance, so dont wait for fear of money. I know it is hard to feel on the edge with money all the time, believe me, but things have always worked out in the end for us. God bless you for your efforts, and please let us know how things go!!

I did not have an IUD, but I do have two children 14 months apart. I got pregnant with my son when my daughter was only 5 months old. I was devastated at first, but now I can't imagine my life without either one. They are friends and they play together all the time. As far as the financial end of it, God will work it out. My sister didn't have insurance when she had her son, so her hospital and OB worked out a payment plan for her. Please try to see the positive side of this. A little person is on his/her way, entrusted to your care. This is scary, seems impossible to manage, but is a miracle all the same. I will pray for you.

You definitely need to go to the doctor. I understand the hesitancy regarding the financial aspects. My sister had a pregnancy with an IUD but it's been about 12 years ago. She opted to leave hers in for the fear of a miscarriage upon removal. I wish I had better advice for you, but really I have none...just words of sincere empathy. I hope everything works out wonderfully and in a way that is best for you and your family. Just please go see a doctor. I know everytime I ever took a pt test and it came out positive I was definitely pregnant. Tests today are very sensitive to the HCG hormone so while not impossible to get a false positive, it is uncommon.

There is no need to retake a pregnancy test. Once it reads positive- there's no mistake! I would not hesitate on going to the hospital. At the very least call your obgyn so he/she will be updated and then they can tell you what to do. This will confirm your feelings on whether or not you should take immediate action. I only have one baby and can't wait for a second, but I know many people who have 3-4 children all about 1 1/2 to 2 years about. Kids this close thrive very well. My sister and I are only 17 months apart and we were inseperable as kids/teens and grew up best friends. I'm sure you will be an excellent mommy to a third!

HI Y.,
I don't have any experience with this. But I wanted to offer emotional support and encourage to you. I have two boys, 17 months a part, meaning I got pregnant when the first baby was 9 months old. They are best friends. I hope all works out for you. Yesterday someone sent a post about a materity card? I think it gave a discount? Also, you might check with Parkland Hospital. It's a county hospital and I think they offer prenatal checkups for free or a discounted rate based on income. Prayer's with you. Trust in God for your all your needs. :-) D.

I am 15 weeks pregnant and I also had a Mirena IUD in place at the time of conception. I understand what you are going through...I was fraking out too. You need to go get it taken out, I don't think the ER will take it out just schedule the first OB appointment you can. I don't have maternity insurance either so if you need any advice about the costs and things...let me know. My IUD was taken out and I didn't miscarry...but there is a chance. Good luck to you.
