We are thinking of getting a Kindle Fire. Mostly because now that the kids are getting older they fight over the laptop and all they really do on it is play games. Or I need it to check e-mail or watch something on Netflix. I guess I have a couple of quesitons about it and what it can do. I like to watch TV shows posted on the networks sites (such as CW & NBC). Will I be able to watch them on there? Also what kind of apps and games can you get on there. If you own one, is it worth it? Do you use it a lot? Do you like it? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I love my Kindle Fire, but I never get to use it. My son is always playing games on it. He likes it because it has the same games and touch screen as a smart phone, but larger.
I think it's set up to buy apps from Amazon specifically, but there is a way to use most Android apps. You can use it to watch videos like Youtube, and the Amazon Prime subscription includes some TV shows. My son watches a lot of Discovery channel shows on it, but I'm not sure what else it can do.

My parents gave "me" a Kindle Fire for Christmas. My husband thought it was kind of silly... except that now I don't get to use it as often because he and my son are always on it!

I like it, but I use it to check Mamapedia, Facebook, Google, reading and some games. My son (3.5) LOVES the children's books (interactive) as well as some of his games and my husband likes to putz on the internet. We have switched over our magazine subscriptions as well.

We don't watch movies on it, but we're not huge TV/ Movie folks yet. When that time comes, I'm sure we'll have to "upgrade".

You can watch the t.v. shows on there, but know that the screen is small. You can use any of the Droid apps and we are on it every day! Because our children are small, we didn't want to invest the $$ in an iPad. When this "dies", I'm sure we'll switch over. For us... this works great right now!

I had one and returned it for an ipad, I wanted the bigger screen. My son has a Fire and loves it. Plays games, reads, and watches skate & soccer videos on youtube. Downside to a Fire for kids is no parental controls - and I mean none. Yes you can password protect stuff but in my experience it doesn't work well because there are many ways around that with the Fire. Plus it links directly to my Amazon Prime account - so he can 'one-click' buy things that bill to my cc. So far this hasn't been an issue, but I could see how it could be a huge problem.

My 3 year old grandson and 4 year old granddaughter have them and they use them very well on their own. They are easy for all age people to use and manage.
