Looking for a Good, and Fast Thermometer!!

Our expensive temporal thermometer just broke... the sautering (sp...sorry) came undone . It never really worked right anyway, we always got different readings even on the same person. So I always ended up using the one the hospital gave us.

I am looking for a well working, and tough thermometer. Preferably an ear one... We are looking at safety 1st, mobi, and braun ones.

From your experience which type works best? The reviews on the websites are always so 50/50!! My kids rarely get sick, but I would really like something reliable (with a good warranty most likely) that will work and work well when I need it to!!

Thanks fellow moms!!

What can I do next?

I never could get a good reading with either of our ear thermometers. I now have a temporal artery scan thermometer and we love it. You just swipe it across the forehead and it gets very accurate and consistent readings and you can use it on a sleeping baby easily. I have Exergen brand that I got at Target for $33 and got a $5 rebate from Exergen's website. It's kind of expensive, but worth it not to wonder if the reading is accurate and also to be able to check a sleeping sick baby (or husband).

I used the Safety first ear one for my kids when they were little. I liked it. You need to read the instructions good though.....you are supposed to pull the ear up and back a certain way to insert it properly and ear temps are different than mouth/head temps etc.
Mine stopped working one day and the kids were 5 and 7 so now we just use an old fashioned under the tong one......I like it best, but the ear ones are good for little kids.

I've had my Braun for 6 years and it still works like a champ!

I don't like the ear ones, you really have to 'aim' them at the proper angle to get a good temp.

However, www.newbeginnings.com and www.onestepahead.com both have a three-in-one digital thermometer that I love! It has a mouth, an underarm and a rectal attachment (each inclosed in it's own space) that reads (and adjusts the temp (+1 for underarm, -1 for rectal, or whatever that calculation is) in 5 seconds. Then it displays the number in green (no fever) or red (fever).
