Looking for a Great Floor Cleaner

I really need some help in finding a great floor cleaner. We have stained concrete, wood, and tile floors in our house so I need something that will really get my floors clean and sanitized since I have a dog and a 4 yr. old daughter. We currently have the Hoover floor cleaner but that's going to stay in the garage since my husband is using for the garage floor and it's getting pretty nasty since he doesn't clean it after he uses it. :( I thought about a steam floor cleaner but have no idea which one is a good one. Please tell me which ones to avoid and which ones you really like. I've been reading reviews online but now I feel like I'm more confused than ever. I'd like to keep it under $100 if possible. If you can help me out I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Any of the Shark brand steamers are awesome. We have had two over the last 3 yrs. The first one was inexpensive and stopped steaming after about a year. We splurged on the next one and it is awesome. Puts out a TON of steam and the floor is never sticky. 2 adults, 2 kids, 3 dogs, 1 cat, so that speaks volume for the cleaners. Obviously the key is a GOOD sweeping before hand.

I have a shark steamer. I got it years ago and it still works well. I did purchase extra cloth pieces since they get stained after a while. It also has a plastic piece so I can freshen up the carpets. The only down side is that I notice lint left behind on the tile (not always), I usually use a papertowel to clean that up.

I had Haan FS-20, which I ordered thru Amazon. My M. had the same thing, her neighbor the same. In terms of cleaning, it is great. The tile in our kitchen sparkled after using it. I loved it because we didn't need to use stinky detergents. BUT: the telescoping handle broke on both mine and my M.'s (bought at different times, different places). When I say broke, I mean that it would not stay extended. So you ended up with a pretty short handle and having to bend over to do the mopping. For this reason I would not recommend this model, but I do think that the steam cleaner is great for everything but the wood.

I have a Eureka enviro steamer. Love it! It's awesome for any smooth floor surface, and does a great job cleaning and sanitizing without chemicals. It doesn't do the best at cleaning grout between tiles, but honestly the only thing that does clean that area is a good hand scrubbing. I think my steamer was about $70.

for sweeping - you can't beat the electrolux unirapido. I think someone on this forum mentioned it, I read reviews and went out next day and got it. Love it! With my ALL hard surface house I was sweeping two times a day to keep up with dog hair, two boys and a husband. The unirapido is awesome, rechargable and a washable filter so you don't have to burn through the paper kinds.
My shark steam mop exploded on me :( I have been contemplating another, but so darned pricy. I did get a bona cleaner with different solutions for hard woods and tile and really LOVE the way it makes my hard woods look.
Good luck it is a tough process. No one wants to toss their money away.

I use a dyson vacuum which works well on the carpet, tile and wood floor. Our builder told no water/steam cleaners for my wood floors. So I vacuum it regularly and use Bruno floor cleaner once a month. I bought a shark steam cleaner for tiles but havent used it yet.

Hey -
I too have Eureka steamer for my tile. It's very old and I LOVE it. As another woman said, it doesn't do much for grout, but I agree with her - only hand scrubbing really cleans grout. I am also a believer in no water/steam for wood floors. My mom borrowed my steamer the other day and she said that what she really liked about it is that it weighed enough to kind of "do the work" for her. She didn't feel like she had to put any elbow grease into the steaming aspect of it. I had not really thought about that, but it is true. So, it might be one thing you want to look at - the weight/heaviness of a steamer.

Good luck,
L.

I have the Eureka Envirosteamer and couldn't be happier with a floor cleaner, unless it didn't require ME to do anything. LOL

ETA: wanted to add that if you click on the link it takes you to amazon where you can read the consumer reviews of the product. For this product, a very nice woman has posted her NEIGHBORHOOD's results from sampling a variety of different steamers. Yes, you read that right. It's a very good comparison (even technical info) on several varieties of steamers. Even gives the temperature the different brands heat the water to (they are not all created equal).
