Shark Steam Mop Worth The $$$ ?

I use my regular Dyson vacuum but I do have the Shark steam mop:
It gets the floors clean but it leaves streaks on my marble tile. It is also hard to push once it gets wet. It does dry immediately but I prefer the orange glow mop for my hard wood floors and a regular mop for the marble. I do like it on my regular tile in the bathroom which is a lot rougher than the marble. I've also found that you have to scrub and go over it a lot if there is anything on the floor like dried milk spots from a sippy cup or hair spray in the bathroom. Special care is required of the pads and it can't be stored with a pad on or any water left in it. I would really like to find a better solution for taking care of my floors.

I absolutely love my steam mop. So much faster to clean the floors and definitely dries faster.

I have one, got it at Costco, and it was worth EVERY penny. Yes, it dries pretty much immediately. There are times that there are small spots that stay wet longer. It takes a little getting used to, you have to move slower, but I think it still goes much faster overall - as a matter of fact I stay way more on top of my floors now. My 6 year old even loves to help mop because she thinks it is fun. There are tough spots that I have to leave the mop on and steam it a little longer than usual but really there is no scrubbing. It even got off a tough stain that scrubbing and scraping hadn't gotten off before (after a few uses, but I wasn't trying, I had given up). Shoot me a message if you have any specific questions.

I purchased my Shark Steam Mop from Sam's and love it. It does a really good job, I was surprised! I guess that the only con I can come up with is that though it does lift stuff that has been spilled in tile grout, it does not clean the grout 100 % (about like a traditional mop as far as the grout is concerned). It drys super fast, and cleans the floors brilliantly. The one from Sam's also comes with a handheld steamer that works fairly well. The cons on this handheld device is that there are some things that it does not work well on (like the kids bathtub paint), however, it also surprised me. It melts of finger prints off of almost any surface AND it takes stickers off of glass and painted doors within half a minute and did not damage my paint!

Oh, and you have to wash the pads for it alone because you cannot bleach them or use softener in with them, and must use liquid detergent with them. No matter, one of my best purchases.

I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. I absolutely love it. I bought it after a few girls at work told me about it. I have very hard to clean slate/rock tiles and it cleans that pretty darn well. You have to sweep or vacum (I do both but I think in normal tile and hardwood one or the other is fine.) we have two big dogs that shed so it's extra work getting g dirt and hair off the floor. Once that's done I'll use the shark and the tile feels so clean. Not gritty like before. And all you use is water so there are no harsh chemicals lingering. It's very easy to use too. And the mop parts are washable so you don't have to buy refills every time. You might want to buy a couple more but it's all up to how much you use it; it's your own preferance. I love it.

HI S.! I don't know much about the Shark model, but I bought the Bissel Green Tea and LOVE IT! You can do the ship to store thing from Walmart.com for about $80 and pick it up with out paying shipping. It comes with 2 microfiber pads and sanitizes too. Doesn't use any cleaners and my floors look great! (and I have 2 cats, 2 dogs, 2 kids) I took it to my grandmother's house and used it on her vinyl. Made it look better than I ever remembered. I have really large tile in my house, so the pads do take a beating from the large grout lines, but I just add a microfiber rag before adding the pad and it works just fine. I think you can even use it on hardwoods. Good luck!

I got the steam mop for Christmas. I've used it twice. It was a lot of work, took longer in my opinion. The first time, I did ALL my tile (kitchen, breakfast room, 2 long halls, 2 bathrooms, laundry room). Took several hours, which is a lot longer than just regular mopping. But, I moved all the chairs, rugs, etc. It was time for a deep cleaning.
Yes, you still have to scrub before you use it on some spots. I think you need to clean your floors with some kind of soap - don't you think? So, I did a little premopping. And you still have to scrub while using it too.
I felt like my floors were SOOOOOOOO clean, but they would have been if I would have simply mopped too.
I need to do it again.
I could only do this while my son was napping because the steam mop is NOT a good thing to have out while he was around.
I also got the little red Electrolux vac. It is a floor wand but the hand held little one comes out of it. I like it a lot! I think these both came from Sam's.

I own a shark steam mop. I prefer it for doing my bathroom floors but when it comes to the kitchen you need about 6 of the pads for it. I also have a broom vac and hate it, it is nothing more then a glorified dust buster with a long handle. now I do have a flip it. If you swivel the handle to one side it is a vaccum with a canister then you empty that and fill the water with cleaner and flip the handle the other way and it puts down the water and cleaner and has a scrub brush. It squiggies the floor and sucks back up the water and takes about 5 minutes to dry if not less. It does take some practice to use it but once you get the hang of it I love it. My brother has one with all wood floors in his home and loves it also. If you decide to go the steam vac way there is one they show on infomercials that is better, can't remember the name of it but have a friend who owns one and swears by it and it comes with more pads. I used the flip it when my grandson was born and he crawled all over the floor and did not get brown knees or socks. I used bleach instead of cleavner on my vinyl floors so it would sanitize at same time. Good luck on your choice.

Nope. Not at all. It was okay for about the first 5 minutes, then the pad gets so wet from the steam that all you are doing is pushing around dirty steam. I could only get less than half my kitchen done with one pad.

It is definetely worth the money. You've already gotten a lot of reasons why except no one mentioned that your floors stay cleaner longer. When you use soap or cleaners, the dirt attracts to the residue. With the steam mop, there is no residue. It really takes less work. Of course you can't help muddy feet and drips and things but the dirt from shoes doesn't stick to the floor. I use it on hardwood and it is dry as soon as I am done. It is tough on the arms when you mop hardwood because it doesn't glide as easily as a wet mop but it's worth it. Enjoy your new purchase!

I bought my Shark at Linen's n Things before they went out of business with a 20% off coupon.. You might try Bed Bath and Beyond with that 20% off coupon. Anyway, I love mine. I use it on my tile floor and it does dry much quicker. Some of the floor is dry, when I'm finished with the whole thing. Some is still wet. You don't have to scrub a bunch, but for some stuck on stuff, I do bend over and scrub it or scratch it off. Be sure and buy extra pads. I've been needing to go get new ones for about a month, so have been using the one that I have and it is about worn out. Hope this helps!

Shark steam mop - love it. I think we get sick less because the germs that come in on our shoes are kept at bay. I have a dog a cat and a 6-year old, the floors need to be kept clean and often. It really works. Really dries very quickly. Can work on all surfaces - I use it on the hardwood floors in the formal living room and they look great. I use on ceramic floors in kitchen/formal dining room. The floors look amazing and they feel great in bear feet, even w/the dog and cat.

I have slate throughout my house it is the ONLY thing that I have found that will clean it. No it isn't all that quick but it is much faster than getting on my hands and knees. Absoultely worth every penny shop around though because I have yet to see it have the same price anywhere. I LOVE it.

You ask a good question. Here's my input. It does make the floors feel really really clean (and I am barefoot most of the time).

If your floor have only light dirt, then this is by far the fastest way to clean them. If there is heavier dirt, which might require slow and/or multiple passes, then it could feel longer than a mop. I say "feel" longer b/c I don't really THINK it's longer. With map you have to keep going back to rinse it out, then you have to wait for the floor to dry. With the Shark, you eliminate both those steps, but b/c you might spend a bit more time going over a very dirty spot it feels like it takes longer.

One thing that I think is particularly great about this product is that it is almost silent when in use. I have a Hoover hard surface floor cleaner too, and I like the Shark much better.

The only complaint (if you can call it that), is you don't get the "clean" smell from using cleaners - lemon, pine, whatever the case may be.

We have nearly 2400 square feet on our 1st floor with 90% of that being hard wood or tile. Additionally we have 2 labs, a 3 year old and a 7 month old - SO our floor take a beating!
