Looking for a Good Steam Mop

I have started shopping for a good steam mop. Mainly for tile with grout, but will be used on sealed hard wood floors. I have been reading some reviews, it has been confusing. The same product people say it will leave streaks and others say the opposite on the same product. I think I am coming down to the Bissell or the Haan. The Bissell is around $80 with shipping and the Haan is $120 with shipping. Does anyone own a Haan? Is it worth the extra money? The Bissell doesn't sound perfect but built better than the Shark and has a swivel head and a removable water tank. Does anyone have the Bissell? We are moms so we really use our cleaning tools, please be honest. Thanks for your time!

I love my Shark! I have hardwood floors. I notices streaks the first few times, but not anymore. I think the streaks were from the cleaners and chemical I have used before. I love the fact that no chemicals are involved, I have 2 kids and a dog, so health and safety is #1!! Good Luck!

I have the shark and love it. The shark I have is the hard surface cleaner (not just the mop steamer), which is great, because it has several attachments including the mop attachment. I use the mop attachment for my tile floor and pergo floors (I'm not sure if you can use it for hardwood floors, but in my opinion, the steam dries so fast that I don't think it would damage the hardwood floor and plus, your hardwood floor is sealed so it should be safe on that). I use the small brush attachment to clean the grout on my tile and it does wonders! When we moved into our house last year, the tile grout was DIRTY! I don't think the grout was ever cleaned, but I used the brush attachment and the grout actually looked brand new! I couldn't believe it myself! We bought it at Lowes (home improvement store) on sale for $80 (I think it usually costs around $100) I believe it's a good investment. We use it all the time. And by the way, I have never seen any streaks on my floors after using the steamer.

I bought a Bissell steam mop last year. We have white linoleum in the kitchen. If I go over each area slowly and repeatedly, it does a good job of getting the ground in dirt out. However, it also leaves a puddle of water on the floor, that gets progressively worse as I go. What I mean is the first 1/4 of the floor there is not that much water left behind, but for the last 3/4 there is a lot of water left puddled on the floor. I have to wipe the water off the floor with a dry mop as I go or else the floor takes hours to dry.

I guess it's possible that I just got a defective one. It's also possible that I need to be changing the pads as I go. But that would take a lot longer since it's too hot to change pads without long breaks to let it cool off.

I did not have this same problem with my previous steam mop (used the same way on the same linoleum). But I don't remember what it was called and I don't think they make it anymore. At least, I had trouble finding the same one, hence I ended up buying the Bissell.

I hope this helps,
D.

We have a Bissell. I have never tried using it on our wood floors but it works great on our tiled kitchen floor. I don't know anything about the other product you mentioned and my husband is the one who uses the steam mop most of the time. It's a little challenging to put on the actual mop part after the first few washes so we don't tend to take it out for small cleanups, only when we want to do the whole floor or deal with a large spill.

Hi H.,
My husband has been in the tile/floor business for 12 years, and I strongly recommend to NOT use a steam mop on your hardwood floors (even those that are sealed)!!Over time, the more water you use on them, the more damage will be done to the floors that you can't repair, especially hot water (steam). We had hardwood floors in our old house, and I used just a mildly damp cloth or sponge mop to clean them.
Hope this helps and good luck,
G.

I can't help with a steam mop recommendation, other than to say I would not use steam on a hardwood floor. Bona Kemi products are designed to clean hardwood floors and recommended by most, if not all, flooring manufacturers. Bona offers a complete system that includes dry and wet mops. Dry mop your floor to remove dust and dirt, then wep mop with Bona hardwood floor cleaning spray to clean ground in dirt. The floors shine up nice and pretty without damaging the finish or the wood. You can find Bona at Ace Hardware (Los Gatos is where I shop), or check with any flooring store, Home Depot or OSH.
