Looking for Good Swimming Lessons

I need a good place for my almost 4-yo son to take swimming lessons. He swam great last year when we lived in TX, but is now afraid of the water, since it has been too long in between lessons. We need a refresher, and I need someone who can deal with his fear. We live in Olathe, but I would be willing to go to Overland Park, Lenexa, Gardner, whatever it takes. Anyone got any ideas?

I have had good luck at Midwest Aquatics. They give lessons year round and I have found that it is going to take more that just a 2 week lesson.

We used to live in Olathe. My sons took swimming lessons thru the Olathe Parks and Rec. I thought that they were well organized and great with the kids, my oldest now 9 cried during swim lessons until he was 5 or 6. If we had not moved to Shawnee we would still be taking swimming lessons thru Olathe Parks and rec. You still might be able to sign up for a session. Go to the Parks and rec home page and click on the Active Life book for the session dates, times and pool. You can also register by phone ###-###-####.

Good luck

Olathe parks and rec used to have a great program. Of course it's been many years since we've used them. Do you have a neighborhood pool? You may check there to see if someone comes in, or if you have a friend with a neighborhood pool that you can get in on some smaller lessons.
I did just look on the Mahaffie Elementary website and the teacher that used to give private lessons must have retired. She was my daughter's kindergarten teacher, (our daughter is now going into 8th grade), but maybe you can ask around and see where your friends and relatives go.

Good Luck and in good health

Elite Gymnastics & Aquatics in Lenexa. They're near College/Pflumm. Indoor pool, low student/teacher ratio and very good. www.elitegymaq.com

JOhnson County parks & rec has a good program. My kids take lessons at 75 & Mission behind SMEast School. Small classes - good teacher. I think their website is www.jcprd.org

It has been a few years, but my 3 children took swimming lessons from Johnson County Parks and Recreation. They gave lessons at the Shawnee Mission high schools and I'm sure at other schools in the area as well. The instructors were
good and were often school teachers.

You can choose to go 1 time a week or more depending on your schedule. Good Luck

The Jewish Community Center at 115th and Nall in OP has a fantastic swimming program and offers lessons. We've taken our three children there for the past three years. An instructor named Paige is just awesome with the kids! Their outdoor pool is really awesome, too, with two waterslides, a baby water slide, diving boards, "lily pads" with ropes that the kids try to walk across without falling in, etc...

I also lived in Texas last year :) We took lessons there, too. We are taking lessons for Olathe Optimst Club. We start on Monday, but they came highly recommended by a good friend. It is an indoor pool (which I like)and they have several sessions. Their number is ###-###-####. They also have a large variety of class options (from the non-swimmer to the more advanced). Good luck!

As Jody said, Elite Aquatics is awesome. My daughter would not put her head under water and they had her going under in her FIRST lesson! The water is warm, classes are small and the instructors are wonderful.

Because I'm glad that someone told me this, I'll tell you: the place is not pretty, but it's clean and functional. It's also expensive (I think so anyway...), but worth it. Both of my kids did very well there. Highly recommend them.

Good luck!

Each town has a community center or a local pool and I am willing to bet that one of them will offer swim lessons.
