I am looking for some suggestions about water classes for newborns. He is due any day and I would like to find something that we can get involved in this fall/winter. We live in Olathe and would prefer that the class be semi-close to where we live.
Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

We tried the Inside 68 Sports for our 18 month old, and we did the Parks and Rec program when he was 6 months. All the ones I found in KC start at 6 months. I felt that we got a little bit more out of Inside 68 Sports ###-###-#### and the water is a little bit warmer (better for both you and baby), but both lessons programs, it was just a lot of splashing and getting used to the water. Don't expect the baby swimming under the water that you see in some films and commercials.

Olathe Parks and Recreations will have some Mommy and Me classes during the fall and winter - they hold them at one of the Jr High School pools. We participated when my son was 6 months and have continued on from there. They are fun and I've always believed it's good to introduce your child to swimming early so they are not afraid later on.

You might try Elite Gymnastics & Aquatics at 108th & Pflumm. My son started at 7 months so I'm not sure how young they start them out - but it's worth checking into.

We took classes through both Blue Valley Parks and Rec and also through Elite Aquatics. While the pool at Blue Valley is nice looking, it is cold and our little one's teeth chattered throughout the lessons. They were also very rigid about parents being by the pool, which made us feel uncomfortable taking pictures (I still did.) Elite Aquatic's pool is definitely not fancy. However, we only had one episode of teeth chattering (they’d changed the water the previous day) & the instructor was VERY friendly. They also have a good ratio 1 to 6 versus 1 to 10. We were also free to click as many pictures as we wanted & to have as many people in the pool (Grandma joined us one day). They start at 6 months. http://www.elitegymaq.com/id4.html
