Hi J.,
I am the member of a mom's group that has a large email list - recently, someone inquired about a lactation consultant and the responses are summarized below. Good luck! -S.
Overwhelmingly, Gail Levy was recommended the most. Then Lactation Care, Debra Cohen and Sherri Spacco were all very highly recommended as well. I am only going to post one entry for each with their contact info as I received more than 20 responses.
Sherri Spacco -I can't recommend her highly enough. She is a L & D nurse at NWH and certified lactation consultant. Sherri is very informed and has a good "big picture" view- which really helps to take the pressure off (especially during those first weeks when you're exhausted and overwhelmed) . We had a terrible time with my son's latch- she was patient and enormously supportive- to both me and my husband! She's very reasonable and does home visits- she came to our house 5-6 times last May. (She's someone who LOVES her job and
just wants to help new moms) Her cell is ###-###-####.
I used Gail Levy, ###-###-#### and she came to my home. I really liked her! Good luck!
I would call Isis Maternity -- they have some great lactation
consultants on staff there.
With my first son, we had a nurse/lactation consultant come from what I think was called the Visiting Nurses Association. She was wonderful and the second nurse was, as well. You may want to contact them and describe what you're looking for. I suspect they could help
Lactation Care in Newton ###-###-####) helped me through LOTs of nursing issues. Dot Norcross is the head consultant, and they also rent pumps, sell nursing bras, etc.
I had someone come to my house who was recommended by another WMF member who swore by her. I thought she was very good, too, so at least give her a call. Here's her info: Debbie Cohen ###-###-#### She's in Newton Ctr.
I did not use a lactation specialist, but I did call La Leche a few times and they were very helpful over the phone. Also the 'leader' for this area even offered to come to my home if I needed more help.
