I had to have a C-section and it seems am having a hard time loosing my pooch = ( i eat pretty sensible, fruits , veggies etc.. i dont have ALOT of time to work out so I go on walks most of the time.. i do want to start working out again but want an EFFECTIVE excersize routine i can do at home..any testimonies/suggestions? im 136lbs today, my pre-prego weight was 130, i would love to get to 120lbs.. :)

Jillian from the Biggest Loser has some work out cd's out. I do the 30 day shred by Jillian. Dont need to leave the house and it is effective. You can pick it up at Target or Walmart.

Be sure to be eating protein and low carbs (though keep eating however much of fruits and veggies you want - just limit other carbs). No sugars.

C-section holds the skin differently and creates a pooch. Even when you lose all the weight, you'll probably notice a pooch stays there. It's not fat, it's just the skin that was stitched back together on a big prego (well, newly not prego) belly that would normally fall differently if there wasn't an incision there. I don't know if that makes sense!

A fun exercise is the Zumba Fitness dvds or wii or whatever version you want. You're a good weight, so you don't need to go crazy to finish losing the weight. I'm the same as you. Normally I weigh about 117lbs (almost 5ft4in), but after I have a baby, i stay around 130 lbs for a little while. Then I lose it.

You know, I hear great things about P90x if you stick with it. Some Marines use it. My best friend loves it. She also does kinect and says it tires her out when she is doing it with friends. You could do specific gym classes so that it's not as casual as choosing to go to the gym. I have a hard time getting to the gym (b/c of mommy guilt lol) but if it is a gym class I feel more obligated to go. Swimming aerobics tends to work very well because you don't feel the burn as your doing it like you do at the gym but you see the results.

ALSO, cross fit. That stuff is hard core. My teacher owns a cross fit gym and it is awesome. He swears by it and so do a few in the class.

I second Zumba too if you like to dance. Dancing in any shape or form is an excellent exercise as long as your moving your body in an aerobic way (like not very slow-paced dancing). I can't tell ya how exhausted I am when I actually go to the club and dance for hours (I don't get exhausted very fast either lol).

the pooch is the pooch and there isn't much you can do about it. its skin not fat (for the most part). I am fluctuate between 135 and 140 and I had 2 c-sections. The less I way the more it pooches out (because there is less fat to fill in behind it).

P.S. old fashioned crunches will actually make it worse if your ab muscles are seperated...do some research on that. Its all about the CORE for us c-section mammas. :)

Bob Harper's Living Room fat-burner is fun!

Minutes What to do:
0-3 --march or jog in place
3-4 --squats (if you can, add a jump)
4-5 --do jumping jacks
5-5:30 --push-ups
5:30-6 --crunches (quickly)
6-7 --lunges
7-8 --jog in place with high knees
8-28 --repeat minutes 3-8 four times
28-30 --march in place to cool down

Otherwise try the Couch-5K running plan! I did this when my second was 6 months old (I also had a c-section)...you might need a jogging stroller if you can't get a babysitter! :-)

I've worked out at home for years.
TaeBo and Cathe Friedrich kick my arse 5 days/week.

If you have the will to keep it up, almost anything you choose will be effective. You just need to be consistent, and find a type of exercise that you don't hate doing.

FWIW, I have a pooch of skin that will not go away with exercise. It's part of my life. Which is why I'm having a tummy tuck done this winter. I work waaaay too hard in the gym to not be able to get the results that I want.
Don't let anyone tell you that you're stuck with your "mommy body".

http://www.womenshealthmag.com/ has tons of great articles online on both nutrition and great home workouts. I second spark people, they even have an iphone app.

I eat healthy (though snack at times), do weights/zumba/cardio about 2-3 times a week, approx 2 hours each time. I've lost about 4 inches in baby fat in my tummy and lost about 15 lbs in the past few months. 5 pounds to go!

Weights are crucial though! You burn more calories and tone even more, even if you just use a soup cans, or get the weights you velcro around your ankles.

In many traditional societies, three phases of womanhood were acknowledged: maiden, mother, and crone.

The mother carries more body fat than the maiden. This is normal and healthy. That little bit of extra fat is insurance for our survival. In hard times, it gives us the energy and stamina to be able to care for our children, even if we must starve so the kids can eat.

I have no idea how tall you are, but expecting your mother body to be skinnier than your maiden body may not be realistic or healthy.

That said, doing things to strengthen your abdominal muscles may help tone the "pooch" that is bothering you, as well as helping prevent back pain and injury from the day-to-day work of caring for children.

You don't mention how long ago you gave birth. If it was less than a year ago, I'd suggest consulting with a medical professional for advice on safe exercises for someone with your medical history. Many exercises that are appropriate for most people are *not* safe or appropriate for people who've had major abdominal surgery within the last year. Be careful.
