The best help I found for the (gas) consequences of changing a diet is papaya tablets (Trader Joe's sells them) that help with digestion. It helped me when I did a similar eating plan. Good luck! Let us know how you do. :)
I posted a day or two ago about doing a juice fast...well after much research I have decided to do an "eating detox" instead...basically only plant based foods (fruit/veg/nuts/beans) for 2 weeks and then limit the amounts of things that have been cut out (dairy etc) after that. It is going to be hard to give up my precious bagels and cheese but I am determined to refine my eating and hopefully cut sugar/dairy etc out of my diet for the most part. I know some would advise making small changes but that doesn't seem to work for me, I guess I am an all or nothing type of gal! I am hoping this will help me lose the 5 lbs I have gained over the last 2 months and increase my energy levels. Does anyone have any motivation or tips for drastically changing your eating habits? I know it will be hard because my kids still eat cheese etc.... and my willpower isn't great so any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Best thing to do would be to put the entire family on a healthier eating regimen, so you wont be tempted to eat things that you are still going to allow the kids to eat.
Add green tea to your diet. It's really good for detox and has lots of anti oxidents in it.
That if you fall down the wagon one day don't feel that is over, just jump back up again.
Here is your motivation.... Just do it!! I hate to be harsh, but if you don't know one else will. It is all about you and your choices. I had no choice, my husband is a newby diabetic. So we had to change everything in our kitchen. When i first started this diet with him and he only weighs 140, so he did not need to lose weight, (I do). I wondered if it would help me. The first week alone I lost 10 pounds. But he lost weight too, and he really did not need to lose anymore. Trust me I researched and called our nurse help line and bought books after books. My goal was to keep my husband healty. this is what we were told and this is what we follow in our home now.
If it's white, it's not right. NO flour, no sugar, no rice, no potato's, no milk, no corn, no bread, no beans, no fruit juices and no pasta. OH my gosh, my whole happy world was going to turn upside down. Sugar got replaced with splendia, rice got replaced with brown rice, milk replace with with fat free or 2% and only a 1/2 cup at a time, bread was replace with low carb bread, (it's really good), potatos's still get eated once a week, but during a low carb dinner, baked, mashed or whatever we choose, pasta was replaced with dream land pasta, a whole wheat pasta, (can not tell the difference). So are we missing out on anything, not in this day and age, so many choices. Now for cheese, women need dairy products for our bones, of course there is yogurt, but I love cheese. Chese does not love me, until I found out, its the process cheese that always messed me up. Get REAL cheese, you can even get it grated, certain brands carry it. Buy block and shread it yourself. Do we eat pizza, yes, but we order thin and make sure they use real mozzarella. Bagel's I love, but store bought and the thin ones. Yes, cream cheese in moderation. with regards to beans, the only real beans that we found we can eat, are green beans. Once in a while we will have maybe some butter beans, or kidney beans, but very small portions, up your vegtables, and it's okay to use salad dressing. Cook with Pam or use olive oil. No fruit juice, only realy fruit. Here is a sweet treat that we have maybe a couple nights a week. We have sugar free pecan ice cream, i break up two oreo sugar free cookies on it, 1/4 banana sliced, 2 strawberries, topped with sugar free hot fudge (so good) and 3 squirts of plain ole redi whip. It's a guilt free banana split.. They even have sugar free cake mixes, frosting, and brownies mixes and all stores carry sugar free items in the bakery. These items are made for diabetics so they use whole wheat flour. We were told, if we have a graving for something, it's okay to give in, just in moderation, if we deprive ourselves, then we will fall off the so call wagon. It's all about you and your choices. You can do this. I still lose an average of a pound or 2 a week. He maintains his weight. Remember if you are hungry, grab a snack, a healty one, NOT chips or cookies (unless they are sugar free). Lean meat is a good replacement for high fat meats... Good Luck...
I would go out and buy myself a bathing suit in my goal weight size and hang if off the refrigerator or pantry (wherever your temptations lurk). :) This was a constant visual reminder of what I was hoping to achieve.
I. Love. Dairy. Can't live without it. Recently was told to limit diet. There are tons of soy "immitations" out there which are worht the price so I dont feel like I'm on such a restrictive diet. Would suggest looking into possibly replacing the things that you most enjoy instead of just eliminating altogether. (tried that initially and life gets pretty stinking depressing when all you can think about is all the stuff you can't have.). Good luck - hope you get great results!
Hi Robin,
My one suggestion is to get all the stuff you DON'T want to eat out of your house. If it's not there, you won't eat it. Load the fridge and cabinets up with all the "ok" foods and keep a positive attitude!
good luck!
Here are a couple of great websites to visit:

I too struggle with the eating better while raising 2 young girls. These websites have been super supportive. I've done a couple of small smoothie fasts and lost a few pounds in a week. And I can definitely tell a difference in my energy levels when I'm eating a plant-based diet.
Good Luck!

Try doing green smoothies. check out greensmoothiegirl for suggestions. There are links on her page too to other green smoothie people. Mine usually are fresh ginger, pineapple, mango, orange and large handful of spinach. You can do fresh strawberries washed and you even blend the leaves. You can add bananas if you like them and just about any other fruit. My smoothie tends to be breakfast and lunch because I make such a large one. Since I started doing green smoothies I have much fewer cravings and my dry skin is gone.
I have become an obsessive calorie counter. I look at every label and ask myself "How much exercise will it take to burn this off". If I feel that it is worth the extra hour walk or fitness class, I will indulge.....usually, it ends back on the grocery shelf instead of my cart!
Good luck, you are going to feel so great. Make sure you get enough protein!

I have a friend that is doing a 24 day challenge through advocare. They cut out caffeine, soda, sugar, dairy, and some other stuff and have lose some weight. There is also the option of doing protein shakes in the morning and afternoon and having a nice lean dinner with the family. Here is your motivation, having the energy to be all you can be with your kids. Able to leap any building in a single bound. Okay maybe not leap over buildings, but think of the energy you will have and the more outings you can take your kids on not to mention the MILF bod that you will be rocking that your husband can't keep his hands off. Good Luck mo and hang in there.
Also Dr. Natura has an awesome colon cleanse that would go great with your fast. It is kinda pricey but well worth it, it is the best one out there that I have tried and recommend it to any one who wants to get a nice cleanse.
