M.D.
What's a movie?
Kidding! It's been so long since I've seen something *I* wanted to in a theater....hopefully next year!
Last night - I did something so out of my normal routine!! I went to a movie with my girlfriend on a Sunday night!!! We usually go out on Friday's...but her sister in law is in town and she was surprising her husband with her!! (it was really sweet and funny!!)
Well, going Sunday evening is a WHOLE lot different than a Friday night! The theater was practically empty. We saw "The 5 year Engagement"...
here's my take - it was funny - but the dropped the "F" Bomb WAY too much - it was used like a comma or a exclamation point - which took away some of the funniness of the movie for me. Have you seen it yet? What did you think of it?
We have plans to go see "The Lucky One"...anyone seen that? We've both read the book and in the past, Nicholas Sparks movies pretty much follow the book...so I might have trouble with it like I did with "One for the money" - the Stephanie Plum novel turned movie.
We are going to wait to watch The Avengers...as we haven't seen The Hulk (the newest one) or Captain America...but we can't wait to see it!! We've heard great things!!!
Soooooo what good movies have you seen lately?

I saw the Avengers with hubby and teen daughter Sunday! We are big fans of the franchises so couldn't wait (actually dd went to a 6 films marathon on Thursday with a midnight showing of Avengers!).
Stay for BOTH of the little clips after the credits..there are 2. The final one has NO dialogue but was funny none the less!!
We recently saw War Horse (yesterday's news now I suppose) but it was REALLY good.
ETA: I thought of some other older ones that you may not have seen the first time around:
Alice in Wonderland,
Shutter Island
Season of the Witch
You know, the new Footloose caught me by surprise. We really liked it, I didn't expect to!
Willard totally makes that movie!
Avengers - definitely Avengers.
Recently I have just been doing the Independent films. I don't go to the theater much, but once in a blue moon. So I cant recommend anything for that, but I love foreign films. LOVE them, sometimes it just takes one or two great films to keep me happy. Recently I watched a NOT foreign film that I LOVED, just last night. Netflix my savior, It was called Carnage. Title will throw you off, but it was so well done I loved the mean comedy in it. Its with Jodi Foster, John C. Rielly, Kristopher Waltz and Kate Winslet. Its just about a boy, who gets into a fight, and the impending conversation the parents of the two boys have for the evening. The cast is just 4 people and its all about manners, or lack there of while discussing an incident. I loved it.
The Hunger Games
The Vow
Safe House
Can't wait to see Bernie.
In Time....It was good. It lacked some substance of how they got to that point in time. But over all a good movie.
I have been on a movie rampage:) Cause we got rid of cable:)
Victor/Victoria. Love that movie. :)
You don't have to have seen Captain America or The Hulk to see the Avengers and love it. Mark Ruffalo plays Bruce Banner (not Edward Norton) and I felt the movie Captain America felt like a whole lot of setup with no real payoff. Well, The Avengers is that payoff. If you have only a passing familiarity with Marvel Characters, you'll be fine. I would say the only movies you really should have seen before the Avengers are the two Iron Mans and Thor. Best movie I've seen in a long while. There is something for everyone. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll julienne fries in under three seconds! Ok, maybe not the last one, but it is AWESOME and totally worth seeing on the big screen.
Yep... The Avengers.
I did not see the Hulk beforehand, and I heard they were bombs anyway. But Mark Ruffalo plays the character in this movie, and he was great. I am very familiar with the Hulk character (I'm old enough to remember the old series from TV in the 70's or 80's). I did not know anything about Captain America, though, and we saw that movie when it came out a while back. It was great. Loved it. I also thoroughly enjoyed both the Iron Man movies also (never heard of him before the movies came out). I did not see Thor, but my husband took our kids and said it was fantastic. He might even rate Thor above The Avengers that we had just walked out of (he's pretty picky). So I put Thor on our Netflix queue so I can watch it.
I was never a fan of comic book movies or comics even, until recent years. Some of these movies have been really well done. All the Spider Man movies were very good. And the more recent of the Batman movies (with Christian Bale as "the Dark Knight"--not the cheesier earlier ones). I also thought the Xmen series was pretty decent.
But I just LOVE fast talking dry humor. Love Dennis Miller, for instance. And Iron Man just EXUDES that... love it. It works very well playing off the other characters.
If you didn't see War Horse. I also recommend that. Nicely done. Great cinema. Good story. Inspiring.
I like 3d movies. I'm looking forward to Titanic in 3D.
