My 7 1/2 month old daughter has almost outgrown her infant bathtub. I've been to the local Walmarts, Targets and Babies R Us's in my area, but all I have been able to find for the "next step up" are inflatable bathtubs that you put inside the adult bathtub. I would prefer not to go that route because of limited space inside our bathroom.
A friend of mine said that she received a gift that fastens to the floor of the adult tub with 4 suction cups. That way, her baby is able to sit up freely and is supported by a "cage" that just reaches her hips when the baby is sitting inside the tub.
Any suggestions on where I could find something like this without spending a fortune?

If your daughter is sitting well on her own there is no need for any other type of contraption for the bathtub. Those "cage" type things that babies sit in can be dangerous. The best thing I have found is to let them explore the tub on their bums, hands and knees, tummies...whatever! You will only have a couple of inches in the tub and you are sitting right there, no need to constrain them. Millions of children have survived and thrived with no special gadgets for the tub, and I have a feeling yours will to. And love it!

When my oldest outgrew the baby tub, she used a regular plastic container, one you use for storage that isn't too high. We just put that in the tub and filled the container. It saved water and she felt safe and secure.
With my younger twins, I started putting them both in the regular tub at about 8 or so months, and along with their older sister shortly after at 9 months. They were comfortable sitting up, and I was there all the time anyhow. The only gadget I found useful was a spout guard. We have one that looks like a turtle and means that when a little head hits the spout they only hit the plastic guard and don't hurt themselves, which is a bit of an issue with three in the tub. They splash around and have a grand old time most of the time. I also keep the water low enough that if one of them decides to crawl, which happened at 9 months, then they won't take in gulps of water.

I have this "sit up" in the tub contraption that you're welcome to borrow until your little girl grows out of it. It was a hand-me-down, and I used it for about a week and then decided that it was easier to just have her sit by herself in the tub and watch her/spot her/clean her/take pictures of her!
I like in Haverhill, so if that's anywhere nearby, I'll leave it on the side deck and you can come and grab it. Let me know.
Just a word of caution - many babies have drowned in those items. The CPSC has wanted to ban them for years. The manufacturers say it is user error - a child should never be left alone in the tub. The problem is they give a false sense of security, and parents step away "for just a second" to grab a towel or something - something they would never do it they were actually holding the baby. I would research these on the CPSC site first. I think you'll change your mind about wanting one.
If she can sit up, try a laundry basket (with holes) in the tub. You still have to fill the whole tub but it keeps the baby more confined - worked great for us.
BabiesRUs online has that product that you are describing. I went to the store (Danvers one) to purchase it and they didn't have it - they said they were all sold out at the time. I guess it is a popular item. Another thing to consider is using your kitchen sink for baths until your little one can sit well on their own (without floating away!) good luck
