My Mom Wants Old Toddler Photo That She Don't Have

I am typing this for my husband-- I asked him for his male opinion. He says:

" Dude, you were like five in that photo. If you were 15 it would probably be embarrassing. Your mom loves you and wants a photo to remember you by. You should make her a copy of the photo and send it to her as quickly as you can. Your mom wouldn't ask for it if she didn't love you."

J., I rarely ask for my husband's opinion for questions on this site, but did want you to have a male perspective. Do it. When you are 50, like my husband is, you will be SO OVER the underwear issue. Chances are, that 5 year old in the photo barely looks like who you are now.:)

If it's any consolation, my grandfather used to tease me "I have naked pictures of you-- don't forget." He did-- I was two, bare naked on Waikiki Beach where I grew up, and I was on the cover of a travel brochure. LOTS (thousands!) of people saw that brochure. Wish I had my own copy, come to think of it.

Be a good son and give the photo to your mom.

You won't understand how much it will mean to her until you are a father, yourself.

you must be very young to be upset about your underwear showing when you were a little child. It obviously means something to your mom - yes you should give it to her. When you are a little older, you will get over the underwear thing.

Copy it and send it.

I have pictures of my daughter at 5, she'd be lucky if I find ones of her "in" her underpants. She did her best to spend most of her first 5 years nude. As a Mom I love the pictures. Her goofy smile, her pure unashamed innocence, her adorable little tushie. :)

Mend the bridge with your mom. Give her the memory back, she misses you.

You could take it to Walgreens and have them help you "crop" the photo, so that you are there, but your underpants are not a part of the photo. Maybe make it a close up of your face.

I think you've been given some very good answers. It seems the majority of the responses want you to give your mom the photo.

Soooo, you don't like the photo. Have you asked your mom "why" she wants it? By opening up the communication lines, you may find yourself mending the "broken" part of your family. :) Give her a chance. Listen to her story....& then make your decision.

If it embarrasses you, keep it.

I am a photo person, I would want it. I have a picture of my brother, my cousins and myself, where my top was a little two low.. I think I was 3 (nothing to show) and it is one of my favorite pics.. I teased my mom about it, but it is great photo.

Photos are our memories, bring us back to a special place and time. It is worth keeping and sharing.

Do you trust her not to put it on FaceBook? If you think she's going to email it all around or put it on FaceBook, don't give it to her. What is her attitude like? Is she kind to you? Is she angry at you?

Since you don't live with her, I feel that there might be a difficult relationship between you two. I hope that I am wrong.

Anyway, you don't have to give it to her if you don't feel comfortable with what she will do with it. You could say to her that when you feel better about your relationship with her, you will consider it. If she keeps pushing it after you've declined, that's a real red flag, and then you should make sure you don't give it to her.

How old are you? Sure, give mom the photo. She is probably less likely to lose it than you are, and you will be happy to have it when you are older.

of course you should! She is your mom. Mom's love photo's like that. It's not emberassing, it's cute when you little to have pictures like that.

I get that it's a little embarrassing. That said, your mom loves the pic. If you still have it, then talk to her. Let her know that you love her and she can have it, but ask her if she can keep it to herself and not share it online.

Since you guys really don't hang out in the same social circles, no one that sees it in her circle will see anything other than a cute toddler.

Give it to her, shake it off. It'll be ok, and you will have made her so happy. That's really the point. :) Hugs to you!

i don't get why this is so hideous.
i have pictures of me, my brothers, and my kids in the altogether.
um....but not all together, of course<G>.
i'd copy the picture and send it to your mom.
i guess if your sensibilities are so delicate that you find it untenably embarrassing, explain it to her and don't.

hi J., if i were a 19 yo boy I would not send it. as a mom though i would probably find it cute and would like to have it. Like someone else said. if you trust your mom and this would make her happy do it, if it is too much for you right now, see if you can find a diff pict that you are ok with , or just wait until you are older and surpise her with it. I bet your buns were cute when you were 5.

Hmm...... I just took a picture of my grandson when he was helping garden.... Yep, his underwear was showing, also! (The waistband of his jeans was below his buns.... ALL his underwear was showing!)

Yep.. I posted it on fb..... however, I asked his M. if I should post it, and she told me to!

It seems there is more to this than just an embarrassing picture, however.....

I understand the embarrassing thing, but in a few years, you will love it and laugh too. We make a point of only taking pictures of our kids with their bottom halves covered, but underwear are free game. So, really, think of it this way. You could have not had any underwear on!!!

Give it to your mom its a nice son thing to do.

I am a mom of a 4 almost 5 year old and one of his favorite things is showing us his underwear and his rear end. He thinks it is so funny and gets huge belly laughs out of it. While at times it gets a little old I know I will look back on those pictures that I do have of him parading around in his undies and have very nice memories. Your mom I am sure has those memories too and that picture although embarrassing to you, is probably very precious and reminds her of good times.
