The problem lies less with the name of the thread, and more with the content of what the thread in its entirety becomes. When the thread gets toxic, when people are calling each other out and arguing, when ugly words are used to describe people, the thread will go. There was one political thread where someone called President Obama "President Pookie". THAT is the kind of thing that will not only get the post pulled, but deep six the thread. It doesn't have to be about a president either. If people are flaming in general about someone, the thread will go.
This is not a political forum. The moderators like things to be "neutral". That is why these threads go. If people can keep them "neutral", the thread can stand.
One lady asked about the question that the lady deleted herself. I saw that one. No one told her that political posts weren't allowed. Several people gave the opinion that they wished she wouldn't post another political hot potato (thought they didn't use those words - it's the gist of it), because of the extremely nasty one about the State of the Union Address (complete with President Pookie) that had been removed. I have no idea why the thread with the question deleted was later removed, unless B's idea that they remove "wasted space" is the reason. By the time MP removed it, there was nothing left to talk about. So ??? I don't know.
Anyway, that's my take on this issue with political threads and why they are and aren't allowed to stay.
