Nail Polish on Carpet

This happened to us recently as well. My girls got bright pink nail polish on our new, off white carpet. I know it's going to sound weird - but we used unscented baby wipes (Huggies brand) and it got the nail polish out. I swear by wipes to get almost anything out of carpet. I've used them before on pen, grease etc and they've always worked. You have to dab/rub at the stain over and over again (using multiple wipes) - but like I said, we've had success that way. My girls are 9 and 5 and I always keep wipes in the house for carpet stains!! Also, there is another product called "Goof Off" that may work to get nail polish out. It's very powerful and strong smelling. We only use it as a last resort and make sure to open lots of windows, turn on fans (to ventilate well) and we try not to use it with the kids in the house.

Hi L.! Don't panic, I am sure there is a solution! My child wrote on my carpet and chair with permanent marker. First of all, google it. I got my tips from doing that and figure something similar would work for you, but would rather you double check online since we had different culprits. What worked for our mess was nail polish remover and rubbing alchohol (I alternated them). Hope it comes out!

WEll, I hate to admit this, but I actually spilled a bottle of nail polish on my carpet myself. I tested nail polish remover on a small spot on the carpet to make sure it wouldn't remove the carpet color. When it didn't, I put a huge amount on the spilled area and soaked it back out with an old towel. It took the better part of a large bottle, but I actually got the entire stain out. Then I let it dry and used carpet cleaner to remove the rest of the smell and fluff up the carpet again. Couldn't tell it even had happened a few days later.

I know this one! I've had to do it as part of my professional training . . . . go online to chem-dry.net and put in your zip code, see who pops up and call for help. Most of the time when my customers have an issue like this we try to get that spot out and don't charge them a miminum service fee if we can schedule it when we're in the neighborhood anyway.

It's a two-step process, the first treatment will liquiefy the hard outer part of the nail polish, and the second lifts the rest from down in the carpet and suspends it into the cleaning gel until it is carefully removed.

Whether you have any residual color is a factor of how old your carpet is and whether you keep the stain resistance current every year or two.
Do NOT try a bunch of stuff yourself, you'll just set it as a permanent stain.

Try using Windex, but you may want to use the clear kind if your carpet is light. I was able to successful get burgandy nailpolish off of blue carpet after it had been sitting there for 3 weeks. Good luck!
