Yes I agree with Michelle M., you need to be sure you are nourished as well as your baby. Eat some crackers while your nursing if need be. Make sure you continue taking your prenatal vitamins as well. In the beginning, I always felt that way too. While you nurse, your uterus contracts and this could be causing the nausea. I felt the same way while I was in labor so I figured it was all connected.

So weird... Me too! If I eat and drink a lot of water right before , though, I have found that I don't feel nauseated. I'm not sure if it is mild dehydration or hormones, but I have been so dizzy before it almost knocked me off my feet! Hope you find something to help you. And kudos for breastfeeding... it is so good for your little one:-)

Katrina,

I have never experienced this, but I have heard of it. How old is your baby? I read that the nausea that some women experience usually goes away after about 6-8 weeks. The theory is that is is due to the release of oxytocin. Crazy. Google it and see what you can come up with. Could you be pregnant? Don't want to scare you, just wondering what else could be causing this. Good luck : )

COuld be because of the oxytocin the body is releasing during feedings. To help with this which will also help with your milk supply, try to eat something before you feed the baby. Also try to down a little ginger ale as well. Once your body adjust to the hormone levels you should notice it going away. Also when you breastfeed your uterus contracts. Many times if your uterus has not resummed back to prepregnancy size, the larger uterus pushes up on the stomach and this too can cause nausea. Again eatting something lite will help with this. Good luck.

I had nausea when I breastfed too. I tried the eating before I fed, not eating, laying down, standing up... I think it is the hormones and they may actually be the same ones that case post-natal depression. I came to this realization after I stopped breastfeeding, but talk to your doctor about it.

Its no fun - I know what you are going through!!!
Dont feel bad if it never goes away and be thankful if it does =) If you have times that you dont feel ill, notice what you have just been doing and try to recreate that.

Good luck.

I had severe hunger pains that felt like nausea. You know when you are so hungry you start to feel sick? That is how I felt, as soon as I let down, even though I hadn't been hungry right before. What I did was start keeping cereal bars right next to the chair that I nursed in. As soon as I would get him to latch on, I'd eat one and it would help so much. It did go away after a couple months at the most. I don't remember exactly, I just realized one day it hadn't happened in a while.
