What can I do next?

THe book: Eat Right for Your Type is based on your blood type. HE lists foods that are highly beneficial, neutral, and avoids. He also tells you for your blood type what encourages weight gain and what encourages weight loss. He has had some people loose too much weight if they ate only the highly beneficial foods, so he had them eat some neutrals too. This is not a diet, but a change to improve overall health.

I did the Stanley Burroughs Master Cleanser for 10 days and lost about 12 pounds. You can find the recipe online (the lemonade diet). Of course, this is a CLEANSE. It is not intended for weight loss so if you don't make some lifestyle changes, you will gain all of the weight back in no time. I used it as a "jumpstart" to help me get rid of a lot of weight quickly and then I made sure to workout and eat right so that I could maintain my lower weight. I'm pregnant with twins now but when I'm done nursing, I want to do the cleanse again. Good luck!

Hi B.,

A healthy diet does not typically lead to quick weight loss. The detoxes (e.g., Lemonade diet) will intially help you lose some weight and for some folks that happens quickly. That might give you the mental boost to make the bigger habit changes that are required. Because, if you don't change your basic eating habits, you'll just gain it back and more. I spent decades on the yo-yo diets and it wasn't until I decided I was just going to eat right and exercise and not worry about losing weight that I started losing it. If you change you diet gradually, you are far more likely to be successful in the long term. Change is difficult for humans and you need to make a very conscious effort to make the change and stick to it. For me, keeping snacks out of the house (and buying snacks for the kids in individual serving sizes) helps alot. Also, always having fresh fruit and veggies on hand makes a big difference. It's also only slightly more expensive to buy some of it already cut-up and you're far more likely to grab it when you're hungry. Also, this time of year is ABSOLUTELY the worst time to consider losing weight - there are way too many temptations. What you might try to do is to just limit your indulgences over the holidays - eat fruit for dessert rather than the sweets and skip the bread with your meals. Also, start exercising (even if it's just a walk around the block) everyday. And, start with just changing one meal a day to a more healthy way of eating - i.e., rather than a pastry or high carb item for breakfast, fix a egg with a slice of whole wheat toast and half a grapefruit. Also, picking one healthy food item that you don't limit (for me it's grapefruit in the winter) really helps you not feel deprived.

Good luck and don't be too hard on yourself. It took a while to get to where you are weight-wise, so it's only natural for it to take a while to get it off.

There is no quick drastic weight loss solution that will work... you're going to have to make life style changes -- eating a balanced nutritious meal and exercising... fortunately, you have everything to gain (showing your children how to be healthy and fit and to make wise diet choices - following you by example) AND nothing but weight to lose. Just like pregnancy weight... you didn't put it all on overnight -- so don't expect to lose it that way either. :) slow and steady is the key...that is what lasts.

I would strongly suggest a new way of life. If you lose the weight through fad diets, it's more likely to return. I have had success with Weight Watchers. Visit www.weightwatchers.com and find a meeting near you. The support and accountability offered by this program will help you be successful in your weight loss plight. This is not a diet! It's changing the way you eat and sustainable for a lifetime. Give it a try! If you follow the program, you will lose weight. I lost 30 pounds in only four months!
