Need Ideas for Daughter's Blue Room

My second daughter is due in 6 weeks. The room we are putting her in is all sky blue - we painted it that color 4 years ago when it was a guest room and full of white wicker and iron furniture. I do not want to paint over it and it's in perfectly good condition and is a pretty color. We're using some of the white wicker, and the crib and another piece of furniture is oak. It all looks great, except I have 4 huge blue walls and I'm looking for ideas to decorate.

I'm not an artist so doing my own painting is probably out of the question. I've been looking for wall decals and have hit more than a dozen sites. I've thought about ocean creatures, a sky theme (clouds, birds) or a garden theme (grass on the bottom with some flowers and bugs). I haven't really liked anything that I've found so I'm stuck for ideas. My 1st daughter's room is purple, green and white and full of butterflies - I want something just as cute but in blue. Creative ideas ladies???

What can I do next?

I found really cute and inexpensive flower decals at Target that you can put on the walls, and eventually take them off if you want to. They are super cute and in a bunch of girly colors. Oh, there are butterflies in there too, that match the flowers.

Michael's now has some great wall art -- (near the paints section) -- you could do flowers- - one decal I remember seeing are tall and short flowers and then you could add a tree and some cute bugs and stuff...their decals for girls are awesome -- they even had big poka dots too....AND if you get on their mailing list, you can get coupons in email -- and the mail -- with 50% off each decal set!!!

I like the garden idea. It'd be really cute. But then, it's also something I've always wanted to do, and never have done. You could do some clouds and birds in the sky. I think such a pretty blue would be very pretty for a little girl.

Target has a really cute Simply Shabby Chic line that has a blue line. I've used the curtains and things like that for my baby girl's line, and plan to change it up a bit when she gets into her full size bed in a few years, using other things in their line. One thing we did for her room that I have really liked, is we replaced the closet doors with a curtain. It's white, gauzy material, and really softens the look of the room. Makes it look elegant, and bigger.

Have fun! :)

I was just at Target today and in there was an ENTIRE row of really cool wall decals. They come in a tube with several stickers all in a theme with ideas about how to arrange them. I think flowers on blue walls (maybe with white clouds or little birds or butterflies) would be SO cute for a baby girls room.

You could also get the white wooden letters (or buy the natural wood ones at a craft store and paint them however you want... even white... I think they are less expensive than the prepainted ones) and hang them using pretty ribbon tied in loose bows tacked to the wall.

Whatever bedding you get for her, you might also get the window valance, and a throw pillow to put on the rocker, and that will pull the girlie around the room.

Good luck with everything. Enjoy your little girl.

blue pink and white would go awesome together. go with traditional girls pink stuff and mix it with the white and the pink. Pink pictures pink bedspread. pink pillows in the chairs. pink balloons on the walls or something like that. pink and blue and white curtains. pink hearts. or matching pink blue and white curtains and bedspread and pull your theme off of it.this could be a blast have fun.

Dragonflies with a few flowers? I'm not much of a painter myself, but my mom came across an awesome idea that I used in my daughter's room. It does absolutely no damage to the walls. Go to a fabric store and find a cute fabric that you like. I chose one with multicolored, big, groovy seventies like flowers. You get some liquid starch and water it down a little. Cut out the flowers, or whatever you like in the fabric, dip them in the starch/water mix, then put them up on the wall, and use a sponge to get the bubbles out from underneath them and to make them lay smooth. I've had my daughter's up fro 8 months and they still look great. I used the same fabric I cut from to make curtains. There are lots of times you can find SUPER CUTE fabrics on sale. This came out sooo cute in my daughter's room.

Hi! My daughter's room is a beautiful light blue with molding near the floor and ceiling that is painted bubble gum pink. Her curtains are white and pastel green, and it is really beautiful and all works together, believe it or not.
Good luck!

Garden theme is the best! My daughter's room is light green, and we have mostly pink accents and white furniture.
Blue would be awesome! You could totally make it the sky, and have butterflies, dragonflies, birds, ladybugs, etc. with clouds and flowers. So cute!
Congrats on the soon-to-be arrival! Girls are so fun as I'm sure you're aware. :)

What about a fairy room? Lots of fairy stuff is blue (pictures, etc.) or you could even go the Disney Tinkerbell route. We did fairy pics and butterflies and it's adorable!

My neighbor has a preschool, and she used a white picket fence piece along one wall as decoration, and as a coat rack. The kids hang their jackets, backpacks, etc on the top part of the fence. I also like the garden theme.

Have you checked on Pottery Barn Kids? They always have really fun, cute ideas. See if they have any "rooms" for girls that are blue. Then use that as your inspiration & get ideas on how to do it yourself! Good luck! I'm sure it will turn out beautifully!

Do you have one wall that's bigger than the others. How about painting that white as an accent and hanging a big picture that ties in the blue?

Or adding a chair rail around the room and painting the bottom part of the room another color?

Or put painter's tape (two strips) around the room like a chair rail and paint a stripe? Or put stripes on one wall vertically in a different shade?

You could just break up the room with pictures.

I personally am not a decal fan.

The room sounds so pretty in blue with white wicker!

I would go with a garden fairy theme. I have three daughters and they never tire of fairies... stories, pictures, make believe, dreaming, drawing... never gets old. You could get very large garden wall decals and then pick out some small fairies to accent them. Makes me want to redecorate!
Good luck

Ohdeedoh has some of the best room designs for kids ever. How about getting a few cute prints that would work as she grows into a toddler, young child too.

Great colors that go with baby blue are a combination of pink, orange and yellow.

This room is perfect:

You don't have to do a theme. Get crib bedding in blue and white, white curtains, and some art to hang on the wall in white frames. Throw-pillows, too. You can go any direction you want to, from old-fashioned to retro mod.
I like this one:

Wow, that's a long link.
Google "blue nursery girl" and then click "Images" and you'll find some good ideas.

P.S. Have you thought about blue toille bedding?

Check out www.etsy.com for wall decals, art, and other room decorations. I think having blue walls for a girl is great. No need for pink everything. For my nursery (didn't know gender), I painted the walls blue and painted a mural of a tree branch wit birds and pink/purple/yellow flowers. I can paint over it later and add a rocket ship decal for my son.

My friend painted her daughter's room blue, then painted flowers and grass at the bottom (you can find decals too, and put a white picket fence around the whole room. Then above her bed she put a clothes line and put vintage baby dresses in white hanging from it and put a few clouds and such in the sky. It was the most amazing room I think I had ever seen.

Good luck

P.S. You could always pay someone paint the art for you too.

I like the garden theme! Have you checked etsy.com for the decals- there are a ton of decal sellers on there, and some of them will customize I believe. I know I saw a really big tree decal, and that would definitely look garden-y in one corner of the room. Add some flowers and a dragonfly, maybe some clouds. I think I have seen vines too (or you could use a vine stencil) to climb up around a window.

What about putting a grass-green shag area rug on the carpet? And you could also use a white trellis somewhere on the walls to break up the blue. You could just buy a trellis, but they aren't the best wood (kind of splintery) so I would get something like flat balsa wood pieces from a hobby store. You could also put white wainscotting on the bottom of the room to look like a picket fence if you wanted to tackle that project. Or just painting some green strokes to look like grass, that is pretty easy. Maybe a pretty little kid bench to look like a garden bench. A gnome or some fairies would be really sweet too.

Now I want to have a girl and make a garden room! :)

I would go to a sherwin williams store or jclict store. That second one is probably spelled wrong lol) anyway they have wonderful borders. not just little 6 inch borders but the big sometimes a couple feet high borders. one in particular has big tufts of grass and flowers and looks like a picket fence. that would be really cute with the blue. go in and check out the border books. they also have those really cool ones that look like turrets from a castle. you could do somthing with that and go with a princess type theme. good luck
