Let me start off by saying I'm not pregant, there's no way, and my youngest is 4.

Lately I have been feeling not quite right. I seem to get very irritated easily lately and can fly off the handle at any giving moment. My husband says one minute I can be myself and then not an hour later be in a bad mood and taking everything out on him. The bad thing is I do not know what is causing me to act like this and it really bothers me that I am treating him this way. I'm not under a whole lot of stress just the norm really. I don't know if I should go to our family doctor or should I go talk to someone. has anyone ever felt like this before? TIA

UPDATE: I'm 29 and not using birth control because I put on so much weight with it, my husband had a vasectomy last year.

What can I do next?

Hi R.,

It could be from whatever birth control method you are using. I noticed that I was the same way with using ANY type of BC pills and now that I don't take them anymore, I don't get those random mood swings.
You also didn't mention your age which if you're in your 40's you could be getting pre menopausal symptoms. I would get your hormones checked because it could very likely be a hormonal imbalance. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Double check the pregnancy thing (unless you already have) because sometimes vasectomies aren't 1005. I'd go ahead and get a physical if you haven't had one in a while. Thyroid issues or blood sugar issues can cause mood swings, weight problems. I hope that helps!

Have you ever suffered from emotional symptoms of PMS? I did and when I hit my late 20's and early 30's the symptoms got much worse. Each month for a few days I was so irritable and the smallest thing would set me off. I, also, was anxious and couldn't concentrate as well as I normally did. I was just extremely angry most of the time. After years of trying to control it with diet, exercising more and just trying to control myself on my own, I took my doctors advice and now take a low dose antidepressant for a few days each month. I stopped BC pills, too, because they seem to make my symptoms worse. Maybe yours is something else entirely. Good luck!

Hello R.,

It could be many things. for me it was milk and soy. it could be just one ounce of milk and it was instant PMS on wheels! find your triggers. it could be certain smells. Are you getting enough rest, are you eating well, are you excercizing ...that's one I shouldn't ask because I can never find time to excercize myself! anyways, it's always one of the first questions the doctors ask. Good luck! ~C.~

I would visit the OBGYN, it could be hormone related...I was having very similar issues and it was low hormones...HTH.

I also have those mood swings, one minute I'm in a good mood and the next I am wanting to pull my hair out. I joke with my husband and tell him I'm Bi Polar or something. Anyways I know that my problem is stress and a little depression and I should talk with someone and probably be medicated.LOL, my sister in-law also had the mood swings and was put on medication and she feels 110% better. You should find someone to talk to even if it's a family doctor or therapist and maybe even consider meds. I would but at the time I am nursing my 7 1/2 month old and dealing with my soon to be 3 yr old and 9 yr old. Tough stuff, but worth it..Good luck

I would go to the OBGYN, I had issues much like you are having, then my periods starting lasting longer and my PMS got worse and worse. What I had was polycystic ovarian disorder which led to my partial hyst. @ 25. I hated the way I treated my kids and my husband like I was bi-polar almost and that freaked me out, so when I asked the OB he did some testing and an ultrasound along with hormone tests- After the partial I have been better, that was a tough thing for me so young but I am glad I did it, no when I blow off it is for a reason-ask my almost 12 yr old =]
