So What Happened?

My husband and I stood on the promises that God would meet our every need. God knew our hearts. Though I was receiving many wonderful ideas, I just didn't feel peace to move ahead. There were a few times in which I thought, wow God this would be awesome, but God just didn't open the door.
Meanwhile, we were getting close to rock bottom! Just when we didn't think we could go any further on the road we were on, God took us a little further...
Well, God was showing us it was going to be okay that we just needed to trust HIM. And once we said, "okay Lord we give it 100% to you, WE were blessed with this:
My husbands "boss" lost in the bidding to keep is contract (my husband was going to loose his job). What did we decide to do? Get away!! It was us showing God, okay we give it to you Lord, and we are not going to worry about it. On the day before our vacation was to start, my husband came home with a huge smile on his face...his boss wanted to show us how much she appreciated his hard work...he had received a paid vacation!!!
When we got home from our vacation we had a message on our answering machine...there was a guy asking Jacob to call him back. At this point Jacob had two weeks left at his job. Well the guy on the other end of the phone said, "We know you are going to lose you job, but we are the ones who won the contract for the current job you have. The only difference is that you will not have to work as many hours, to make a long story short, my husband "lost" his old job only to gain it back again making twice as much a week but not working as many hours, (I know it doesn’t make any sense, but God's blessings do!!)
So what does this mean to me? I don't have to search anymore for income, I can stay home just like I wanted to, and my husband is working for more money but less hours!!
so please except my heart felt answer to you who gave me so many ideas, "thanks but no thanks, we are doing just wonderful now!" but please don't lose contact with me, I have set up blog were you can keep track of what God is doing with us and out family at www.glhoffman2004.blogspot.com

Its really hard isn't it? To try to find that balance?
Does your husband have set hours that you could get a job in the evening? Or perhaps you could find something you could do when the kids or napping or playing quietly (like medical transcription, doing research on companies for a job headhunter, etc.). You could get your resume ready and just send it out..telling people exactly what you could commit to: 10 hours at home work, once a week in the office, etc. I know there are alot of mothers on here that do the home parties...Im sure you could try that out to.
If you are crafty there are some websites you could sell on like www.hyenacart.com and www.etsy.com. For a nominal fee you can set up a website and sell crafts there.
Another option for you may be babysitting?
Im sorry that these are just random thoughts...I haven't had enough coffee yet LOL

You already received a boatload of good advice. The first thing I would ask is what type of work did you do outside of the home before you became a FT wife and mother... That can help you with deciding what you may want or be qualified to do.
You already have several full time "job's" right there <s> One thing that I would suggest - Is to get to a quiet place (If you can ;) ) and pray about it and see what the good Lord reveals to you. Perhaps you are already doing what he wants you to.
If your former employment is something that you can do from home search the web for possiblities. Be VERY careful about these offers that you can make thousands of dollars from home...If they sound too good to be true they usually are. If you have never worked in retail sales I would be very cautious of any MLM business. Selling is not easy. I am not sure what area you are from but the Northeast PA area is not the best for Direct Sales people prefer to go to department stores rather than do parties etc. You can rack up a lot of debt if you are not careful. The very thing that you want to do is earn money and sometimes you wind up shelling more out. If there is no money up front then -- that would be a safe venture to try. There are a lot of people who have become successful but usually that is only 2% of them.
I would caution you in taking in babysitting unless you get licensed. People today are very litigious and having a license not only protects children's rights but your rights as well. You want something where you will pay into your social security so that you have something for the future. I have been down several paths in my life was a single working parent in my youth so I am speaking from experience here.
If you do have something that you are crafty with making and selling crafts at fairs, and events can make you some pocket money but again you have to have money to make them first, unless you take orders. It can work but people usually buy on impulse and like the grab and go idea.
Another option is look around your house at what you may have accumulated and no longer need and sell on ebay, to raise somee cash to buy your supplies with.

Child care is costly so I would agree that working outside the home and putting the children in childcare would not be an option for you unless you qualify for Subsidized Child Care.
I heard just the other day that Health Care is one field that is not really affected much by a recession. Something to keep in mind if you are really pondering going to work outside of the home although there are companies that do offer work at home opportunities.

As I have said - you have received many good suggestions -- just wanted to highlight some things for you to pray about.
Being a Full time wife and mother is a very important and honorable job. Your husband sounds like a gem. God Bless him!

Direct Selling is just that - you're sharing something you believe in.

1st of all, if you were to put them in daycare, would you even make money? Meanin 4 kids in daycare costs a pretty penny and unless you can go out and make gosh at least 40 50000 you not gonna make anything. You need to think how much it will cost you to go to work, daycare, transportation, extra meals on go, clothes, who gonna watch when kids sick, and when they start school.

First, look at your current expenses and see if you can cut back on anything. Don't need vacations, fancy clothes, etc.

Second, then you look for job while husband is home so he can watch the kids.

Realistically you are working more then fulltime with 4 small kids.

You can see about watching 1 kid if you think you can handle that on top of the others.

God Love ya. I was in the same boat as you, but I have only one child! You have four!!!!! Could you take a full time child to baby sitt in your home? I have three full time kids in my home. Depending on where you live, you could make pretty good money weekly if you do this. Even if it is just grocery money. My hubby sounds like yours. AWWWWWWWW got to love them

Lots of great advice here, G..

I would encourage you to make a list of all the things you'd want from a job so you can really decide what YOU want. For instance, how much extra income do you need to bring into the house. Figure out the realistic amount that would make an impact and be worth your time. Decide how many hours you can commit to that. Then figure out if you could bring that income in if you had to pay childcare, gas, etc. if you worked outside the home in your field.

I left the corporate world after becoming a mom and have been home for 7 years now. My children are now 5 and 7. I also had strong feelings about raising my own children and finding a way to make it happen so they didn't go into childcare. I have 20 years experience and my degree and I searched for months for a part time job that was flexibile, etc. It just didn't exist. Then I researched several direct selling companies and ended up choosing one that fit for me. Nothing else had the flexibility with the great pay that my business affords me. The result has been a very fulfilling career and a balanced home life. I work from home and am available for my children. I work part time hours and receive full time income. I pay the mortgage, private school tuition for both girls, other house bills and we've been able to travel several times a year on my business. It's a total win-win for me because I'm still growing professionally, contributing financially, and have lots of quality time with my family. I take them to school, pick them up, volunteer at their school, have all summer with them, etc. No worries where they'll go the days they are sick, etc. It's totally awesome!

Running a home based business is definitely a great option for anyone looking for quality of life without sacrificing time spent with those you love. It also brings with it many tax benefits too!! You just have to find what fits best for you and your family. Good luck with your search.

Also, if you'd like to learn more about what I do, please feel free to email me at ____@____.com for more information. I can send you a 10 minute DVD that gives you a real sense of the business and it's culture. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have as a result if you decide you want more info. If you decide to look into direct sales, weigh all the benefits and choose one that you are excited about and can see yourself doing.

Best of luck,
Renee

Hi G.,

I have a highly profitable home based business that I would like to introduce to you. When you get a chance check out my website: www.trisharay.candlebizfromhome.com
OR my company website which is what your website will look like IF you decide to join us.
www.trisharaycandles.scent-team.com

This home based business allowed me to leave both my jobs. I used to work the overnight shift so I didn't have to put my children in Daycare. I also drove school bus thru the day so my kids can come with me. I started in April 2006 by August of 2006 I was able to leave both jobs and stay home with my children. My husband and kids LOVE helping me with the business. We get to spend ALOT of QUALITY TIME together. That's what us Mom's really want to do right.

Hope this helps!

Hi G.,
I stopped working full time soon after my O.-and-done son was born. Part time works for me but only because my mom provides child care for me. (Bless her heart!) I seriously doubt that you have much "quiet and napping time" that equals a few hours at a stretch when you could work from home, because I am lucky to get O. uninterrupted hour with my O. child! If you think you would have the energy in the evening, maybe find something part-time after your hubby gets home from his job.
But O. other suggestion I have is to possibly sell your kids clothing & etc. on ebay. I have had moderate success with this without investing a whole lot of time. Or you could try selling items on Craig's list locally. Realistically, you probably are constantly rotating through kids clothing sizes, etc. and there is a good market for used kids clothing out there!
I find it easiest to do my ebay listings at night, after my son's bedtime. Your income would be limited only by your effort and supply of stuff. After you get a few hundred bucks in your PayPal account, you can easily transfer it to your checking account and viola--pay day!
Ebay is pretty user-friendly to figure out and set up. Good luck to you!

G.,

My baby boy is 8 1/2 months old now. I am lucky enough to be able to work half the day from home and half the day at the office and it works out that my mom and husband are the only other caregivers during the day. It works but with me and hubby on opposite schedules sometimes we are like 2 ships passing in the night. We do it for now but I would love to be able to just do my own work-from-home thing. I just started selling jewelry and am hoping to do that full-time eventually. I love being able to go out and help others earn a ton of free jewelry and I am already really helping out bringing in extra income. If you want any information, let me know.

P.S. 4, 3, and 16 month old twins... you must be a saint!! :)
