okay mommas, I am the new kid here, so fill me in!!! LOL. I have been browsing around, scrolling through questions over the past day or so. and I am confused on one point for sure...what is DD, DS DH, OP etc...what are those short for??? and also, in general if it is possible, what is the typical mood on here. are people really allowed to give their opinion? are there the cliques and such like in high school? are people able, generally, to retract the claws and let people answer how they want to? just curious, like I said, i'm the new kid and i'm just hoping to kind of just blend in with the crowd so to speak. I've already seen a post or two that seem like women just trying to be catty because they didnt like what someone said to them, hoping that isnt the norm on here. so, hi, i'm E., how are you today?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

nice to meet you Emily. we are having a loud day here. kids running around playing and talking to eachother. my hubby man is sleeping after a looooooooooooong night of working, he didnt get off of work and home until close to 9am. so for the time being he is sleeping. but i fully plan to have him up and around in roughly 2 hours so that I can get out of the house and have some "me"time....window shopping and Kohls and Pier 1...I am so excited I can hardly wait!!! even though I have zero dollars, I am going to pretend the store is all mine...LOL

thank you thank you thank you!!!! okay, new question to add to this one, someone mentioned "trolls"....uuummmm, HUH?? LOL, i picture that old story/book something like Billy Goat Gruff, or a weird zombie-ish movie. so, what is a troll in terms of this site?

D stands for Dear...or Darling or Darn. ;)
Double D is daughter, S is son, H is hubby.
OP is original poster.
The mood...well, it can get pretty ugly sometimes and some moms are clique-y. But the good thing is, you can just click on another question.
I try and avoid the debates unless it strikes a nerve.
So, welcome E.! I'm E..
Having a ok day so far. How about you?

ETA (that's edited to add): I have been here for a while now and I have found way more moms here to relate to than where I came from...
Quite a nice variety of different moms. ;)

Have fun window shopping! That is all I could afford to do too...
Trolls-people who come around just to make mischief. Ask off the wall questions/give horrible/mean answers. They usually get blocked pretty quick (see that report as inappropriate button) so their fun doesn't last too long. If you suspect someone is trolling it's best not to respond.
HTH!=hope that helps! ;)

welcome!

been on this forum for years. I've learned a lot, I've answered a ton of ?s, & I've had quite a few laughs.

I've learned that occasionally posters do not want to hear truthful answers....they prefer to hear their party line. In these cases, laughter is the best response. There are also moms who go waaaaay out of their way to help you, & their #s outrank the flamers. (thank goodness!)

Yes, there are cliques. Yes, there are occasional trolls. But more than anything, there are moms/dads/gparents who simply want to help & that's "why" I return here.....hmmm, daily!

Trolls are not specific to this site, they are referred to on any website where people are allowed to comment. Trolls are people who seem to be commenting to get a reaction, their motives are not clear/right/pure, certainly not in the spirit of this forum. We've had trolls who seem to be floating odd questions just to get people riled up, posting fake concerns and pretending to be someone they're not. Think of the verb "troll", looking for trouble, that's what a troll is.

Hello, A. here. Welcome! Emily answered your questions on the abbreviations (ETA is a good one, glad she remembered to mention it). This is a good site, I like it a lot. As with everything, there are people who will welcome your opinion and value it whether they agree or not, and there are people who will not welcome anything that is not in line with their own. To each their own. Rest in the fact that you're pretty anonymous on here so you can say what you need to say. I'd suggest trying to not go guns blazing and slash someone to pieces though (I have been on here a little over 5 years, and have only done that once or twice when something really struck a nerve with me.....and it was deleted). I think it's a good mix. There are dweeby posts/replies, but you can just go past it to the next thing. No big deal. There's a lot of neat ideas, interesting takes, good information out here though. Have fun.

DD=Darling Daughter, DS=Darling Son, DH=Darling Husband, OP= not sure lol. No I haven't noticed any cliques.. Some come here to vent, some come here to ask for help, some come her to help, and some come here to just to connect to other moms. Pretty decent group so far. You will get a straight answer to your questions. You may not always like the answers but you will get them. Also not everyone agrees the same so you get a variety of responses. Welcome and I hope it helps you in some way or you get the chance to help someone else. After all isnt that what life is all about.

I love this site. I've gotten a lot of good responses on here. Some people will tell you how it is straight up but thats what happens when you want advice sometimes. Some like to vent. Theres also some dads on here too.

Welcome! I've been a member for awhile now and have found the typical mood on here is getting very helpful answers to my questions. I don't really get the feeling there are "cliques." But yes, some women can be downright mean. I can handle the truth/bluntness because it makes me really think about stuff in a new way. I just think there are ways of saying things without being mean or nasty. You will find people definitely have an opinion about everything!!

So, as I saw your other question you posted, seems you've jumped right in!! lol!!

Have fun and good luck!!!

Hi E.! Welcome! I love this site, and usually browse around at least once a day. There are definitely some good debates on here. I try to stay out of the nasty ones. But it sure makes for interesting reading. Sometimes I have to refrain from being "nasty" myself (like yesterday, when someone responded to a question about whether a woman should take her 2 year old Trick or Treating. The responder said she thought Halloween was EVIL. I wanted to say "really??? get over it" HA!) Anyway, enjoy the site. You'll see frequent posters and that's always fun. Everyone knows Rachel D. from Richmond - she cracks me up (HI Rachel!) Have fun on here.

Welcome!

Sorry I'm just getting this...

Did you get your answers to the "lingo"?
DD - Dear (or other D word!) daughter
SD - Step Daughter
LO - Little One
BF - breast feeding or best friend depending upon context
SS - Step Son
DH - Dear husband
MIL - Mother in Law
FIL - Father in Law
BIL - Brother in law
SIL - Sister in Law
SO - Significant other
SAHM - Stay at home mom
WAHM - work at home mom
SAHP/WAHP - @home parent (usually a dad)

Yes, some women on here can be catty - I've been accused of it. Oh well..you can't make everyone happy, now can you?

Hot topics are usually breast feeding vs formula feeding, politics, circumcision and SAHM vs Working Moms...

There are some people (you know there are dads on this site too?) don't like politics and will report almost any political post...since politics is so divided right now - people can be mean...we have proven in the past that we can be adults and have an ADULT "debate" but there have been times it got to name-calling.....It is my opinion that politics is part of your every day life - your morals, values, ethics, etc. and who you choose to support is supposed to mirror those...it is my opinion that the politicians work for US and we need to hold them accountable for their actions or lack thereof...and I think that all politicians suck...they are thieves, liars and cheats!!

There are some people who are "report" happy...if they don't like what you said - they will report you to mamapedia...sometimes your post will be removed, sometimes it will not...this happens for questions too - you may NOT sell anything here and there were a couple of mamas who got VERY upset that their posts were being pulled...if you have a business where you sell stuff - you may tell someone about it IF they ask the question...If you want to promote your business - use the "featured business" on the right.

There are some people who come here looking for validation and only people who believe that they are right...and you won't find that here...not all the time...we mama's can be VERY outspoken - blunt, no sugar-coating - which is what you get from me...some have been offended by my bluntness....I am a Conservative..I am a PASSIONATE American (surprise! Surprise!! Surprise!!!)...

WELCOME TO MAMAPEDIA!!!

hello E.,
I have been on this site for probably 2 years now and I have yet to figure out the abbreviations. Most of the people I have posted to seem very nice and not catty. I do know what you are talking about tho. But in the same token some of the responses are not always the nicest or the most constructive so may e that is what you have seen. I love this site and get some good ideas off it. Hopefully you will too.
