Hi everyone. I'm new to mamapedia. I have a few questions.

I have already given "flowers" out. Does that mean you agree?

Do the questions have to be about being a mom, or about anything?

Is there a place I can post just a message or comment?

Are there only moms on here?

Is there anything else I need to know?

Thank you.

What can I do next?

Thanks everyone!

Yes for flowers.
Anything for topics.
You can private message someone by clicking on their name and sending a private message.
There are dads, grandmas and grandpas as well as moms.

Make sure you are coming here with a completely open mind....Or be careful asking questions that the populist on here dont agree with. Politics, religion and hot topics in that nature can usually stir up the most trouble.

TROLLS....Be aware that we do get a few here...They are the ones who come here just to cause trouble....Ask dumb questions and give even dumber response's. You can usually spot them from four sites away and we do a good job on calling them out on it.

The most important thing to remember on here...None of these women, grandma's, grandpa's, aunts and whoever else DONT TRULY KNOW YOU. Their thought s are merely opinion and subject to what they themselves know or have dealt with. Things can get mean on here and fast....When it happens do not take it personally. Just move to the next topic, question or whatever.....If you take it personal, you will go crazy and not want to use the site.

Now that I have scared you.....not my intent.....Go forth and ask as many questions as you can think up:)

Us oldies but goodies like newcomers:) It is always fun to get to know someone new:)

All in all this is a fun site.....you will learn to navigate it how you want too....that is how you can get the most out of it. Find your groove for it here and you will fit in well:)

Welcome! There are lots of moms but also dads, grandmas, grandpas, etc.
A posting is supposed to be in the form of a question - it does not have to be strictly about parenting (do a little search - you'll see there are all sorts of questions posted!!)
Flowers are used in a few ways - may be something you agree with, may be that your answer was well written, could be that it's a comment someone appreciates that they hadn't thought of.

welcome! :) flowers can mean a lot of things, "good answer", "i agree", "thanks for backing me up", "thanks for taking the time to answer, whether i agree or not". kind of like the "like" button on fb.

and i have tried more than once to "like" or "flower" emails at work. lol.

I think flowers mean good answer.

Anything goes.

There are dads and some kids on here. Also several trolls. Sometimes people report questions and answers for no good reason and they get pulled. Don't take it personally.

Welcome.

i won't repeat all the good advice below, but want to add three items to make the site a little easier:

1) words in blue and underlined (in a question or answer) are links to more mamapedia questions on that subject. It's a great way to get quick answers.

2) The search box in the upper right corner. I use it all the time and almost always find someone else that has a similar issue.

3) Try out the Timeline (top on the left). It shows all the questions/issues for your child's age. Helps to know what's coming ahead.

if a child calls you 'mama', then you are a mama, doesnt matter if you birthed them or not.you can post a comment or question, just follow the links , and there you are. the questions dont have to be about being a mother, though the political debates are usually better left alone.more later

BE YE NOT INTIMIDATED.. there is no such thing as a dumb question, there are, however, some stupid, snarky, condescending answers.
