New Walker and Vomit

My 11 month old just started to walk about a week ago and also started to vomit around this time. I know this is probably a stupid question because it does make sense that since he is falling a lot more, his food and milk are coming back up, but I wanted to see if any of your babies experienced this when they first started to walk. I normally wouldn't worry, but he hit his head really hard 3 1/2 weeks ago and had no vomit then, but now I am worried it is a delayed symptom. I did take him to the doctors after it happened, but you can never be too sure. Thanks for any help! =0)

No my children did not vomit when they were learning to wallk. I would have him checked again. Is he eating anything different or drinking a different milk?? Something is amiss.

I think your first instinct that it may be a delayed symptom is right on. Take him in to be re-evaluated. Head injuries are serious and vomiting can be a symptom of a head injury. A slow bleed wouln't necessarily show up immediately.
Hope it is nothing but a tummy bug, but if he has no matching diarrhea that is unlikely. I would rather be safe than sorry.

Get him to another doctor, these are signs of a head injury and yes this can happen later after a head injury.

It can take years before a head injury will be normal. I know I have a son this happened to. But also, this can be an inner ear problem as this may be why when he walks he vomits etc. You may want to go to an ear, nose and throat doctor and tell him just what you wrote in the question. This is where I would first start. Inner ear is different then a regular ear infection.

Hi J.,
Might your DS be cutting eye teeth(the pointy ones)? The oldtimers used to call them "stomach teeth" since usually a child is beginning to eat a greater variety of foods. When cutting those teeth it is common to also have stomach upset, but not sick. When children begin to behave differently, check to see if they are cutting teeth. Often crankiness or change in eating habits shows up at that time.

Hi J.,

There is cause for concern for a concussion, even with symptoms (like vomiting) days/weeks later after head trauma. My child never vomited with falls when first walking. See the link below, and PLEASE insist your son gets a CT scan of his head. Good luck!

Hi J.,
you can never be too careful when little ones hit their heads, but if he is sleeping normally and waking normally I would not be too concerned.
But, since he is just learning to walk you can expect lots of falls and tumbles. I would keep him in a little walker until he gets his balance and is more sure on his feet.
also, at 11 months he could just be teething which would cause the upchucks- but if it is violent and you see other changes I would consult my pedi.....try to keep a chart of when the upchuck happens-how often-
and if you have changed anything in his diet= he could have developed an allergy to a food- perhaps something with the "peanut oil" but most likely he is just teething.
good luck and blessings
