Hi, I too have my own Home Business and do from time to time have open houses. I always provide some type of food and beverage but not too much. You are inviting people for a specific reason but it is not for the food. If it is an evening gathering I do have wine as well as water/pop.

Good Luck- Having your own Home Business is a sure way to STAY a stay at home mom. Don't quit.

I tried this last winter and got 1 person to come. I served an apple pie, marketing it as a ladies day to get to know one another. But, we don't know the neighbors all that well so I hope you have a better turn out. Good Luck!

My sister had one a few years back & she invited tons of people. Unfortunately only a few arrived & she had way too many appetizers & wine. So if you can try to contact them a few days prior to confirm that they are coming. Maybe you can set up an account with evite.com & send it out via e-mail. Evite then tracks who read your invite & the rsvp's all for free! But for the few of us who went she had a beautiful table set up w/ lights displaying her product. Her house also was decorated for the holidays. Have fun!

Congratulations on your new business venture. A good resource on cosmetics you should be aware of is the Skin Deep data base at www.safecosmetics.org. This site provides a review of ingredients found in nearly 25,000 brand name presonal care products and their safety rating. Unfortunately, some of the ingredients used in cosmetics are hazardous (even in small amounts) and should be avoided.
There was an article in Sunday's Star Tribune, Source Section titled "The Ugly Side of Beauty Products" by Sara Glassman about this issue. The good news is a number of companies have signed the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Compact which means they have pledged not to use certain toxic chemicals in their products. If your company is on this list, that's a good selling point for your company. If they are not, you should encourage them to sign the Compact and/or think about working for another company.
There has been increasing media attention to this issue and it is bound to come up in your Cosmetics parties. Hope you find this info useful.
