board books went into a basket and were available all the time. Books that I would read to them, but they might rip the pages out of, went up high on a book shelf.

I put them in baskets. My oldest is 7 and still never stands book up in a book shelf, they just pile them in. I found baskets to be the easiest thing for books.

I like baskets, but they do make super cute book racks i think i've even seen how you can make your own. One was just something like plastic that they use for gutters screwed to the wall at the hieght of the preschooler. There are others that are made of fabric, almost like a curtain with the bottom brought a third of the way up and the books fit with the cover showing, and there are a few rows like that. sorry for the bad explaintion but you could google it.

Like i said though baskets are easiest. And Kudos for helping your kiddo be a book lover!!! great to start them off right.

I have ours lined up "spine up" in fabric-lined baskets.

I think baskets are great for very little ones. Place a basket of cloth or board books on the floor to be explored, so the toddler can 'dump and fill'. Board books also stack up nicely, making tippy towers that don't hurt so much when they crash. The books are more likely to be explored, too. I've worked with families who use shelves but found that it tends to look a little sloppy and the books don't stay up easily.

Ditto everyone.

Baskets.

It does not have to be on a shelf.
That will topple over.

Baskets, are their height, can be reached into and explored. Which is also good for them to explore.

I would do a basket and have a few in the basket. Every few days change out the books with other ones. You can store the other ones on a shelf or drawer that is not in your baby's area.

When your little one gets older you can get a book shelf, my daughter at age 5 has a 3 shelf book case that holds almost all her books (well over a hundred books). She now knows how to treat them, read them and put them away so no worries about giving her access to all of them.

We put up a 'rain gutter' book shelf. It displays the books with the front cover facing forward. You can attach them at any height so your child can reach. Plus it is pretty inexpensive to install.

You can google rain gutter book shelf for pics and such.

I too use baskets, but I also have a shelf hanging along my 4 year olds bed for story time. It was from Pottery Barn Kids and I highly recommend it. It is just wide enough to hold a desk lamp and 2 or three rows (depending on the size you get) of books covers pointing outwards. Ours holds 15 or more books.
