warm compresses-as warm as can be tolerated-as frequently as you are able-with a clean cloth each time. You can also try Boric acid ophthalmic.
So what is an easy quick fix to pink eye? unfortunately I am not able to get into the doctor for some time to come and would like to know any idea's. This is day one of knowing I have this btw.
Thank you for all of the answere's. You are all very helpful. There are a few things that I am skeptical to try but hey if it helps it helps. I did not go to the doc, and its not spreading to the kiddo's bf or anyone else so i think we are good.

Over the counter Similisan eye drops. Has worked great for us!
I have had pink eye several times. You do not need to see a doctor unless your eye stays infected for a long period of time, say a couple of weeks, with lots of infected discharge. I've been to the doctor when I've been sick and also had an eye infection and the doctor always tells me to put really warm damp compresses on my eye several times a day. He doesn't prescribe anything for it. Most often it's a virus and it just takes time for our body to get rid of the virus.
Here is a web site that tells about pink eye and it's treatment. http://www.webmd.com/eye-health/tc/pinkeye-topic-overview
After reading other replies. Most pink eye is a virus or caused by an irritant. Antibiotics do not help and should only be used when the infection is known to be bacterial.
My pink eye has nearly always come when I've had a cold. All colds are a virus. I've infected my eye(s) by touching them with my fingers. Frequent hand washing is a must to prevent the spread of the virus.
I don't think their is one as it is infectious, and will need to be treated by antibiotic eye drops. If anything, warm compresses will help with crustings, and swelling/irritation. What ever you do, do not rub your eyes. Wash hands thoroughly throughout the day.
Sorry, but you need antibiotics. If you have a primary care physician, you can often just describe your symptoms over the phone and have them call a prescription in to the pharmacy. They don't like to have people with pinkeye in the office because it's so contagious. See if someone else can pick up the scrip for you, too.
Use JOHNSON'S Baby Shampoo, just a little in a clean sink with warm water and a clean washcloth. Wring out washcloth, in shampoo solution and wipe out inside of eyelid. Doesn't hurt and gets rid of pink eye.
For some reason only Johnson's Baby Shampoo works.
honey is a natural antibiotic. I have done this TONS of times for myself and my kids. You get warm water, and mix some honey in it. Use a medicine dropper and drop it into your eye 3 to 4 times a day. It will be gone with in a couple days. Also chamomile tea bags work great too! I never use antibiotics for pink eye anymore because they never work. Make sure you wash your pillow case daily and wash your hands like crazy!
This is not something that you can cure over the counter. It requires antibiotic drops. And if you are not careful it will spread like crazy. If it's you that has it you will more than likly give it to your entire family and they will give it to where ever they go this is not something that you want to ignore.
Just because the eye is irritated and has pus does not mean it's pink eye. It could mean she has debris in it that is irritating it. It could also mean she has dry eyes and the wind is blowing or the winter air is dry....I have dry eyes and I am constantly having red swollen pus filled eyes. I don't have pink eye, that is something the doc must diagnose. I also do not believe that every time a child gets a little red or irritated or some pus that they are contagious.
I suggest you try giving her a shower, wash her hair so that if there are irritating allergens in it they'll be gone, then make sure to wash the eye areas with the warm water and some soap like Dove, it will clean the eye lashes and remove any crunchy crusts.
Then use normal eye drops and cover the eye with a damp cool washcloth, let her rest with it on there. I often will use a single ice cube in it to help with the swelling too. If her eye looks any better after doing these steps then it was NOT pink eye but irritation from her environment. IF it still is the same and even after a couple of showers and cool rags then it is most likely pink eye that she caught from another child or from you.
If you are breastfeeding, breastmilk works wonders!
It depends on the type of pink-eye. If it's bacterial you can try wetting a cotton ball with warm water and gently wiping your eye with it. (Be sure to use a separate cotton ball for each eye.)
If it doesn't get better in a day you need to see a Dr and get some drops.
You probably know that it's highly contagious, so you need to stay away from others and wash your hands often and well.
GO TO THE DOCTOR! I had this last year and it was dreadful! My whole eye was dark red and it really really hurt. It was much worse than my kids ever got it.
Try an urgent care center-thats what I did. I got there for first appt and was in and out in 1/2 hour tops. If you really can't get there try calling your doctor and pleading your case to see if he will phone it in.
Lastly-this is very contagious so be diligent about washing your hands and surfaces that you touch.
