Please Advise, I Need Something to Fill My Time

Hi J.. Since you asked, I'd love to tell you what I have found, for I was in the same situation as you. I'm a SAHM also in Cumming, right off Bethelview Rd. I found the same thing-I needed something other than being a mommy to fill my time and give me another thing to do that included adult conversation! :) I've used Shaklee products for 20 years, and had a business with them before. Hi J.! I can so relate to what you are feeling right now. Five years ago I walked away from having a job...the only difference is that I remarried and had a baby right away, so once the baby was born my time filled up. But in the meantime I too searched for things to do. I decided to work from home and that has worked out well for me, but of course that is not for everyone. I live in your area, I would be interested to see what else other moms share here. I haven't lived here all that long so I don't know what all there is for a lady to do during the day except for perhaps volunteering to work at a place that needs helpers. ~S.

Your first sentencce was that you quit your job to spend more time with your children. So I am thinking you might want to find a part-time job or volunteer position with the school or with one of the children's outside interests like a sports team, etc. This will give you more interaction with the children and will allow you to build relationships with your childre's friend's parents - a must in my opinion at their ages (13, 11).

I would personally sta away from social clubs at this point because although their main meeting may be during the day, there will be weekend events and evening events that will take you away from what you say you want. Hope this helps, S.

The women offering you ideas on home-based work is one idea. Since there are many, many different companies you can do that through I would research them and find the one you have the most passion for. Some others are: Southern Living, Homemade Gourmet, Pampered Chef, Discovery Toys, etc.

Another thought was to join a tennis team. You can do this either in your neighborhood (depending if it has tennis teams) or through another n'hood near by or a local athletic club. Tennis is huge in Atlanta and there are many different leagues to join...ALTA, USTA, T2 and KSwiss are the ones I know of. ALTA and USTA have teams on many ability levels so even if you are brand new to tennis you can find one that fits your ability level.

You neighborhood may also have a social committee. Many n'hoods have either an HOA or Swim/Tennis association and typically there is a person on the board in charge of social events. I would contact that person to see what is going on and how you can get involved. You'll meet others in your n'hood. In my n'hood there are women who walk together every day. You need to just meet people (either at book club, bunco, etc.) and then you'll have social interaction with them during the day.

As for the resume services...you can go to your local Jewish Family and Career services office and they have someone I believe that can coach you on resume writing and other related services. You don't have to be Jewish to utilize their services. I know there is one located on North Point Parkway in Alpharetta...just google it.
