if he is acting pretty normal when his fever is down with medicine.. he is probably OK.. if you are really worried take him to the ER... or the dr. if the azithromycin is not working the baby probably has a virus and he will get bettter without antiobiotics..

It's a good sign that the fever is not continuous and that your child is playful when the fever is down.
102 isn't a really high fever though I know it's annoying when it keeps coming back.
It's important to keep your child well hydrated.
An antibiotic won't help against a virus.
Don't panic, stay calm, monitor symptoms and stay in touch with your doctor.
Fever info:

Types of Fever
Fever can be classified in the following types according to the rise in temperature:

low grade 38–39°C (100.4–102.2°F)

moderate 39–40°C (102.2–104.0°F)

high-grade 40–42°C (104.0–107.6°F)

hyperpyrexia >42°C (>107.6°F)

Treatment of Fever
Generally fevers do not need special medical attention, unless the patient is a child, and the temperature is really high. When an individual has fever, the things that can be done to bring down the temperature and give him comfort are as follows:

The room temperature should be at a comfortable level

Fresh air should be circulating

Ensure the patient drinks plenty of water to prevent dehydration

Give ice cubes to suck

Excessive layers of clothing to be taken off

Paracetamol to be given as tablets (adults) or syrup (children); ibuprofen as tablets (adults) or syrup (children); or aspirin, for adults only. Children under 16 should not be given aspirin.

Did the doctor test for mono?
If it is mono, the symptoms can go on for roughly 2 weeks.

Push the liquids. The more fever they have, the less they drink, the less they drink the higher the fever gets. It's a self-feeding cycle.

You can alternate Tylenol and Motrin every four hours to get and keep the fever down.

Cool compresses on forehead and back of neck (can also do wrists and feet if necessary).

Antibotic doesn't help a virus so if it is that it will need to run it's course. How long hase he been on the antibotic? It takes time to work. The fever does mean his body is doing it's job of fighting whatever is going on.

Dunk a washcloth in a bowl of cold water with a piece of ice or two, and lay it on the baby's neck and/or back. Alternate this with her forehead.

Give the baby a cool sponge bath ever few hours.

It is probably Influenza A (the flu). Didint the doctor test for that ? My kids had fevers for 10 days . We did the tylenol /ibuprofen for days. I would ask for the test to be sure . If it is the flu , it just takes time . They are contagious as long as they have a fever . That is basically the entire 10 days.Give lots of fluids . Hang in there

IT"S FINE, fevers can last a week. Just keep pushing fluids.

My daughter had 102 - 104.5 fever for 1 week. Her fever finally broke on her 5th birthday, which I made her spend in the emergency room at 2 am cuz I was so worried.

While she had fever she was playful and didn't want to lay around. She begged me to teach her how to ride a 2 wheel bike, which she learned after 5 minutes of trying.

I know it's scary but just watch to make sure no other signs develop. Give it a couple more days and then take him/her back to Dr.

Azithrimycin is an antibiotic. If your child doesn't have a bacterial infection but has a virus (likely since it has gone on so long) than it will not help and some feel may hinder the situation.

A fever of 102 is high enough to fight the virus or illness but not so high as to put your child in danger. I wouldn't do another round of antibiotics UNLESS a bacterial infection is confirmed. Let nature take it's course, lie low and keep things a little calmer than normal, rest and fluids but try to keep him happy.

Since the child is playful, then he's likely fine. If it's a virus then there's no medication/antibiotic to offer to get rid of the illness and you have to let it run its course. That's what the doctor is saying.

The best thing you can do is make sure that your child is getting plenty of fluids from water, soup, fruit, and whatever else he's willing to eat and drink. Try to avoid sugary drinks like soda and juice as those can cause diarrhea and it's better to get actual fiber from fruit. If he doesn't have much appetite, depending on the baby's age, offer crackers and bits of fruit and broth. Offer Farina Cream of Wheat or pastina or rice with a little butter. Let him sleep as much as he needs.

If the fever goes higher than 102* and the baby becomes lethargic and/or you have trouble waking him, listen to your instincts regardless of anything we or the doctor say and take him to urgent care or the ER.

I have a rule since my first baby was born: I wait only 3 days for a fever over 101....no longer...some moms are lucky and some others not. I saved once the life of my baby years ago. If your doctor say.....wait for 5 days....I am sorry, but I would change doctor.

My son used to get EXTREMELY high fevers and they would last for a week. I used to take him to the Dr and also the ER and they all said that my son has a "extremely high cooker" and as long as he was acting ok then he was fine.

I'm soooo sorry, I know it's hard to watch and extremely scary. Good luck to you!
