Aquaphor works wonders. It's made by Eucerin, and stores should have it in the baby aisle since it's Baby Aquaphor.
My son has begun that wonderful teething stage where he just pours drool out of his mouth nonstop. I didn't experience teething to this extint with my first, so I have never seen a rash like his. Everyone tells me it's normal but it looks miserable! He doesn't act like he is in pain and I keep him as dry as humanly possible. I was wondering if there was something I could put on it to help. It is even on his little finger and down his arm because he sucks on that finger and the spit just rolls down his arm. His skin feels so scaly and looks awful, Please Help!

My daughter had a similar issue, she would suck her bottom lip in and drool would get all over around her mouth and she had an awful rash on her face. I try everything otc, and it almost seemed to make it worse! So we finally went to the doctor and he said that there is an enzyme in there saliva that causes it and gave me a steroid cream and it works but it comes back sometimes but with less severity each time and I just use the cream for a day or 2 and its gone. And when it is cleared up I use some aquaphor to help protect the skin from it happening again. Hope this info helps!
This is definitely something you want to direct to your pediatrician. OTC protective creams may not be safe if there is a chance he will eat it off himself. i think you are on the right track keeping him dry. I would also keep him in long sleeves that still breathe to keep him cool, but will also absorb some of the drool. I would limit the creams though to areas like under his neck. Don't use near the mouth or hands. Change his clothes often, to also assist in keeping him dry. The double bib is a great idea as well! Good luck, and as with most things, this too shall pass.
Hi S.:
I understand your pain! My daughter just turned 1 this past Saturday and still drools excessively. What I have found helps is vaseline. The drool slides off and it protects their skin. You may have to apply it a couple of times of day but it should help.

Wow so young! I had this problem with my son too he had a constant rash that looked more like scaly pimples. I talked to my doctor about using Miracell it is an all natural oil like product that is used on everything skin. I would put it on him and it would work within the day. It is all natural and can be used for any age I bought it onlice at Miracell.com it works great for anything with the skin even bug bites, small cut, dry spots, and wrinkles check it out! But definatly talk to your pediatrician before trying something new he or she might have a better suggestion! Good Luck!

wow... he's still young... all i can say is that my son is 9 months and he stillllll drools like that... he hasn't had a rash though so not sure what thats like. anyway sorry i can't offer advice just wanted to let you know you're not alone ;-)
Have you first called your pediatrician to make sure it's not a medical issue? Otherwise try using Eucerin cream or even a light coating of vasoline.
You may want to rub some vaseline or neosporin on it when he goes to bed. If it is down his arm, you may want to have it looked at by his pediatrician -- my youngest had hand, foot, mouth disease and it looked very much like a bad rash. The doc put him on some meds and it cleared up in about 4-5 days.
my daughter had that, and the doc gave here a cream because nothing otc worked. it worked in one day! i cant remember the name but it was a huge tube and started with an E. I might call them and maybe they can call something in. Gl
This might sound silly... but, when my daughter was teething a drooling BAD... I used two bibs at one time. I got those bibs that had a lining on the bottom so, that the drool didn't seep through and I changed the top bib often. It might tide you over at least until you can something from the pediatrician. Also, try Lanolin ointment because it will create a protective barrier on the skin... but, it is a little greasy.
Talk to your pediatrician first and foremost about it. If it gets really bad could turn into a yeast type infection.
But normally it's just irritated skin from all the moisture. I would treat it at night when baby goes to sleep and during nap time.
So he won't wipe it off.
A&D ointment works miracles. I have used that since my oldest who's 19 was a baby and still use it. It's great for chapped skin everywhere. Thin layer is the key, less is more. You don't need to goop it up, just a thin layer.
All of that drool is what keeps their gums and teeth clean until they are almost 3. So, the drool is actually a good thing. Just messy.
