Plus Size Girls Clothes - Where to Go Next?

My daughter has outgrown size 18 1/2 plus size. She isn't ready for women's sizes. What size do we go to next? Our main problem right now is finding a swim suit. She outgrew the biggest plus size the JcPenny carries.
To clarify - she is 9. The problem with swim suits made for older people (women and teens) is the chest. They are loose in the chest which makes them not fit. We've tried Justice and she can wear a size 20 in clothes but the swim suits are too small. I will try some of the companies that people suggested. Thanks!
And, I really wondered how many people would tell me to make her lose weight. Only one so far said "get her moving". The question was not how do I make my child smaller. The question was, where do I find clothes that fit the size she is. I am a dietitian with a degrees in nutrition and exercise science. The problem is NOT a lack of knowledge. There are many factors that contribute to a person's size. Not everyone who is over weight is lazy and eating bon bons all day. Thank you to the 8 non-judgemental moms who offered help.

What can I do next?

Land's End carries kids clothes up to size 20 and Old Navy does up to XXL in kids (web). ON also does vanity sizing, so their clothes are usually very generously cut.
Good luck!

Sears has a girls plus size section. it will go up to I think a 20. in the boys its called husky but they call the girls something else it doesn't say husky. you might also consider looking in the womens plus sized petite section. she will need the smallest size but the petite will mean they are not to long etc just wider.

You may need to hem the tankini top for length, but the go from size 16-26... They dont list those sizes howver, and size 0-4 (0 being 16, 4 being 26 roughly), so go by their size chart.

My 9yo just hit the Men's Dept. I know it feels weird, but that's where his waist is. Hemming is dirt cheap, though!

Justice does sell plus size, but to get the larger ones, like 20, you have to go online. Sears has a large selection of plus size. Junior plus is an option. If you have an everything but water or water, water everywhere in your area try there, they specialize in swimwear and have very nice suits, albeit expensive. Mail order is another option, I'm assuming she is still fairly young and wants young looking suits, they have catalogs that would work. Good Luck!

VJW and Marshalls have plus sizes. She is now a 1x. You will have to shop in womens sizes. For a bathingsuit i would suggest get a short piece bottom a dark color and then just get the extended bikini top that covers the belly. I feel bad if she is a kid or a teen and already weighting hat much. Get her moving. A friend I worked with who use to be real big did. She did it by walking now she is running marathons. Walk with her around the block. then around schools then tracks etc. Keep going. Get her a treatmill if you can

I thought Justice had a plus size section, or you may just need to go to juniors.

How old is she? I agree with trying juniors plus instead girls. Is she really short too? is this why she can't go to the women's section? Even womens petite?

Jcpenney has plus size juniors clothes, that's probably what will fit best and be most stylish for her age.

Do you know a good seamstress? Maybe you can have a few made. The material at JoAnn's is really cute for swimsuits. That way it would fit perfectly for her. Just a thought I had...my mom used to make hers. My aunt, my mom, and their friends all made theirs one year...they looked like a syncronized swim team...LOL. Good luck and God Bless.

Since I'm having the same problem as you with my almost 12 year old, I don't have advice but I want to say THANK YOU!!! People do not realize how judgmental people are to parents of overweight children. Your so right when you say "Not everyone who is over weight is lazy and eating bon bons all day. "

I'm not sure what size an 18 1/2 is when we're talking about children's sizes, but since the largest size I know of is a 14/16, I'd say that yes, she IS ready for women's sizes even if you don't want her to be. You may have to do a lot of hemming, but sizing is needed for girth and it's much easier to cut off and hem length.

I am going to be truthful with you. You can take it how you want too.

Women's clothes and girls clothes are the same size....seriously.

A girls size 10-12 or 12-14 (Large) is the SAME size as a woman's extra small. The women's clothes may have a bit larger arm hole and if it's shorts they may have a bit larger leg hole, if it's a leotard the bra area may be a bit more shaped but the cut, the length, the size around, all that, is the same size as the girls 10-12.

A girls 12-14 or a 16 pre-teen (X-Large) is the same size as a woman's small. Even some mediums are cut to this size. They do this so they can sell the look. You don't want your child to wear sexy cut clothes so they make the kids clothes look like kids clothes.

If you look at regular women's clothes then you will find some that are the appropriate fit. Not too big in the arm holes so their chests are not flashing everyone.

The same with girls shoes.

I wear a size 6 1/2 up to a 7 1/2. I can wear a girls 4 and 5. They are huge shoes but the make them this large so that girls don't realize they can wear a woman's shoe and start bugging mom to buy them heels and other more expensive shoes.

A girls 4 is almost the same as a woman's size 7. The girls 5 is almost a woman's size 8. This way they are wearing girly shoes and not hoochy mama shoes to school.

You're girl is already at least a woman's size medium. She may already be in woman's large.

One of the mom's that brings her kids to the gym is a tall willowy woman who dresses in leather and silk. She is fashionable and beautiful. She wears a ladies small to medium in almost everything. BUT she will also fit a girls 1012 or 12-14. We had a girls narrow leather skirt on clearance for $5 and she said she was going to go try it on. I thought it would never fit but she can out in it and it fit her perfect. It was the perfect length too. She looked amazing in it.

My granddaughter is on the show team for gymnastics. They didn't have a show team leotard in her size. She is just now growing into a girls size 7 slim jean. Her 6/6X pants are just getting too short and tight around the waist. They had one show team leo in a woman's small and one in a woman's medium. They were on clearance when the owners bought them and most of the show team are kids in Jr. High and High School so they had bought the extra ones in the adult sizes. I took 1/2 inch out of the hip area. I started at the waist and took a gradual seam down to the top of the leg opening. Less than 1/2 inch and the adult small leo fit her perfect. I took a tiny seam across the top of the strap that goes over her shoulder. That was all the adjustment for the leo to fit her.

She is just growing out of a 6/6X pant and a ladies small almost fit her exactly. So your child is already the size of women's clothes. It is going to fall on you to find the appropriate styles that are acceptable for her to wear.

She will not be able to wear ladies dresses or pants but tops, shorts, and skirts should fit fine. Knit items too should be more comfortable for her.

As far as a swimsuit...I would take her to the adult department where they sell modest clothes and find a one piece that does not have thigh high leg openings and not low cut tops. Even a leotard would work for her to swim in. They usually have a lined crotch and bra area.

Have you tried a on piece competition style suit? Check out swimoutlet.com. You an call them for advice. The sizing is funny. My daughter is about a size 14 right now and wears a 30 completion suit. So she might wear like a 34 or 36.
