I'm working on potty training my 2 year old boy, and he is slowly getting it. But coming from a family of all girls i have to ask, when do you start teaching them to go standing up and to aim?

What can I do next?

D. I have a 4yr old son and potty training was no picnic
a little trick I learned along the way... is throw about 3 or 4 cherrios in the potty and have him try to aim for them
it worked for my little guy plus it made potty training fun for him...sounds a little wacky but try it...

I started my son when he was about 2 (he is five now) but at Babies R Us they sell the targets that are flushable.. he loved them and would laugh every time he hit the target.. it made it a lot easier since I was a single mom.

OK Now this is my area It took me forever to potty train my son coming from a harsh relationship he took it hard. But I found out standing up is not only easier fo you but also for him. I finally accomplished potty training when I asked if he wanted to learn how to pea on a tree. Needless to say I asked my dad to show him (obviously in the backyard) and he picked it up in a matter of 2 days. Maybe you can try teaching him how to shoot cherrios or froot loops. not only does it help potty train but teaches Targeting. (wich is important)

I would wait until he is at least 3. If you don't you might have a lot of messes to clean up...unless he insists on going like dad. That was the case with my son...so we aimed for him for a while. Then we started putting Cheerios in the toilet for him to shoot at. It worked like a charm. Make sure you get dad involved. He knows a lot more about it than you do!

We have four boys, and I taught all of them to use the bathroom by first sitting. Once you think he is feeling comfortable with the whole potty experience and he does well then teach him to stand and aim. I believe they sell little targets at Baby stores but cheerios work just as well, throw them in the potty and let him shoot! Good Luck!

I don't know what the correct time is. However, we worked on potty training my son for several months (it seemed more like a year because my oldest a girl potty trained just a couple of weeks) We were having my son sit because I didn't want the mess. When I broke and bought a stool to leave infront of the potty he was trained in no time. Don't know if it was just a coincidence but it seemed to speed thing up. It might be that with the stool he didn't have to have me he could just go. We started with one stool but we went to 2 stools (one for sink and one for potty) because he would leave the stool infront of the sink and he would have an accident trying to get the stool just right infront of the potty. Ok I am ramblin now. (can you tell its been a couple of days since I left my house lol)
Hope it helps

My son will be 3 next week. He just started Potty training in July. Before that he wanted nothing to do with it. What I did was when I started to potty train him I put him on the potty backwards so that he could straddle the toilet. After a while of doing that I let him stand on a stool and his dad taught him where to Aim it. It's worked pretty good so far. He is completely potty trained to go Pee in the potty and have no accidents at night. He gets it and it really hasn't been too messy. Now if I could just get him to Poop on the darn thing we would be done. If anyone has any suggestions for that let me know.

My son did fine sitting down to pee, but once I tried to get him to stand up it was a different story. My husband wasn't around (his job transferred him, and I didn't want to take my kids out of school) so it was left up to me. The only thing I could think of (coming from a family of all girls) was to ask him if he could make bubbles in the toilet with his potty. He tried it once, and thought it was so funny that he could make the bubbles he continued to do it. He just turned 3 and is completely potty trained (day and night). Hope this helps. Good luck to you.

My oldest, who is now almost 4, still sits down at home. I couldn't get him to stand up no matter what I did. I finally just gave up and told myself that if he saw other boys his own age standing up that he would too. I put him in preschool this school year and the teachers say he does stand up at school. He still sits down here, though! Makes it easier to clean up!

My second, he is almost two, is already standing up and refuses to sit down. Now, that is a MESS!!!

Hi D.,
I'm also starting to potty train my 2 year old son. My advice to you is to let him decide. My son started when he went potty with Daddy and saw him standing. Maybe if you try this he will decide to try it on his own. Hope this helps:)
