Question About the Colony Elementary Schools

I am moving to The Colony in about a month, and we are looking at houses in several locations. I lived in The Colony for 8 years before moving away in 2007, and at that time my kids were not in the school system. Which is the best elementary? The houses are interested in are near Morningside, Stewarts Creek, and B.B. Owen. Also, does anyone have any experience living near the train tracks off of Sample Dr.? We are considering a home there, but it is very close to the tracks and we are concerned about noise.

Thanks in advance -

C.

BB Owen is the best kept secret in The Colony. My son's three school age children all went there. I was active in the PTSA and became friends with several of the teachers over the years. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has a choice of where to live in The Colony.

I live on cul-de-sac 1 house from train tracks in Carrollton. Have not heard the train in years, unless someone points it out to me. There is one whistle that blows late at night and I don't even hear it anymore.

I grew up in The Colony and the LISD school district is AWESOME. I wouldn't hesitate to send my kids to any of them if we still lived there. ON the noise issue, I would drive by there at different times of the day and see how noisy the trains are. We live near a train now and rarely even hear it but I think it is because we are not right next to it and I have learned to tune it out. But in hindsight, I would have driven by early in the morning, in the evening and late at night to hear the noise level..... just an idea! Good luck!

Ethridge is the best elementary school, based on my working there and having siblings who attended there and their ratings in Texas state database. I hear Morningside is the runner up.

It is a great school, the administration and teachers are great to work with. I have yet to experience any problems. Best of Luck!

Welcome to The Colony! I live two blocks from Sample Dr. and actually have 2 friends that live on that street. They tell me that they don't even hear the train anymore...they just got used to it. As far as schools go, my son went to Morningside and we loved it! We were actually in B.B. Owen territory but put our son in Morningside due to a friend of the family working there. But I have never heard anything bad about B.B. Owen..heard it is an excellent school as well. We have been in The Colony for 10 years and love it! Small town feel with anything we want or need either in town or just 5-10 minutes away. Good luck with the house hunting and the move!

Hi..We too just recently moved to The Legends and researched the elemenatary schools in the area. Morningside seemed to get great marks and we are very comfortable with our kiddos going there (in the future!). I also have several teacher friends who say good things about it. Good Luck!

Check out the schools on greatschools.net. It ranks the schools based on test scores, etc. and often has parent reviews on the site.

I teach 3rd grade at Morningside. I believe that the administration of the school is friendly and easy to work with. The staff works hard to meet the needs of all of their students. I believe that the school has a warm and inviting environment. You should call and ask to visit or tour, that would give you a better idea of what the schools are like.
