Hi Ladies,

I recently bought a used van from Toyota. It's a 2006. I just bought it in January. Well, apparently the battery died and they had to replace it. I was wondering if I am covered for this cost? I bought the Powertrain Plus coverage at $2,599.00 for 36 months till the year 2013. Is my battery covered for this? I doubt this would be covered by gap insurance LOL. Also, would my insurance cover this or anything? I believe I bought a warranty (Powertrain Plus) for this reason at the time I signed for the car.

Any help please!

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, they had to tow away my van and take it to the dealer. The dealer said it would be $230, but said he would cut that in half and only charge me $115 for everything. I got my car working the next day. :) They did have to replace the battery as well as some wires.

I will look more into this though. Thank you ladies for all the wonderful advice! Sadly, it was not covered! I still feel a little sketchy about the price. Is this reasonable--$115?

Thanks!

do you have a copy of the agreement? I doubt things like battery replacement, wipers, tires, etc are covered-but ask!Maybe the battery went bad because something that is connected to it failed to work propery and it is covered as a result.

I highly doubt the battery is covered since a number of "uncontrollable" factors can play into the life of a battery. Here, a 5 yr warrented battery with both top posts and side mounts can be purchased from Advance Auto for $99. I just purchased one for my BIL. Your area you may be looking about 2x that...and if you take it to somewhere like that, they'll install for you as well (they're VERY easy to do--heck, I can change one myself) . GL

Batteries are usually never covered -especially almost a year after purchase. The Powertrain refers to the engine/transmission usually and Powertrain Plus refers to some extra components, but usually not the battery. Sorry!

The battery is not likely covered, but they really aren't that expensive. I wouldn't get the new battery from the dealership....you would do better at a tire and battery center (Sears, Sams Club, even Walmart!). I would imagine you could replace it for less than $100. Your insurance definitely won't cover it and a battery is considered a "wear and tear" type of item and generally isn't covered by any warranty (unless maybe within the first 30 days). Hope this helps!

ooh, toughie for me since i've never bought a new car - lol. :)
so take my advice for what it's worth...but i don't think powertrain plus type of warranty covers the normal wear/tear things like batteries, tires, etc.
if i were in your situation, since you sound dire, i'd go ahead and buy the battery and then call and ask about the warranty coverages. i wouldn't wait and see (b/c i don't have that kinda time!). if they do cover then you'll know for next time!

Warranties usually do not cover wear-and-tear items like batteries, tires, fuses, etc. Have you asked? Usually those extended warranties are a rip off.

You should have received a booklet telling you everything that is covered under the warranty. You should also have an 800 to call to find out what your plan covers

Typically windshield wipers, batteries, brakes and tires are not covered under warranties as they are normal wear and tear.

The battery shouldn't cost more than $150. You can call around to autoparts stores for prices.
