You may want to give you child a probiotic. They have chewables & powder form for kids. And coconut oil is excellent for rashes.

A great solution for us was mixing Aquaphor with Mylanta (the same ingredient that calms the lining of the stomach from stomach acid , also calms the skin externally from the acid.) Our pediactrician's nurse recommended this. She also recommended breast milk (has healing properties) squirted directly on the rash and leaving the bottom bare to the open air for hours on end so the rash could dry out and heal. I'd do the latter during the day and the aquaphor and mylanta mix smeared on heavily for the night time diaper.

If it is that bad I would use what the dr recommended, however I've mixed cornstarch and vaseline together to help with diaper rash...

Good Luck - butt rashes are never fun!!

P.S. Triple Paste was my favorite - kind of pricey, but worth it!

I agree, if it's something the Dr. feels needs a prescription -use it. For less intense rashes, I LOVED Aquaphor. Good luck and hope it clears up soon!

Have you recently switched a brand a diaper or wipes? If so this could be an issue. Also I would leave him uncovered as much as possible with no diaper, etc on him. Leave him so air can get on his rear.

Lots of Yo-Baby Yogurt. Keep the area as dry as you can. Do not use baby wipes use clear water. My grandson got a bad yeast infection in the diaper area and it turned into thrush, the tried medication's the Dr. gave them but they made it worse (they ran out of Arbonne) we started giving him organic yogurt and got him back on Arbonne's ABC baby products it started clearing up with in hours. He still eats yogurt all the time he loves the Yo baby yogurt. PM me for more info on either of these things.

Maybe not a homemade antifungal but I've a got a great formula for a serious diaper rash cream with it in it.

I got this receipe from a fellow twin mom. It was a must after my boys started on solids. It usually will calm a flare-up in a couple of changes. (I only use as long as necessary.) I can't remember that exact proportions as I've been mixing it ad hoc for a while now but the key ingredients are:

A & D ointment or any vaseline type diaper ointment. (Do not use a zinc oxide. That can really burn on a raw bum.)
Anti-fungal lotion (to combat the yeast.) Lotrimim or another anti-fungal athletics foot cream will do - I use the generic Target stuff)
Hydro-cortizone (to promote healing.) Target generic is fine)
Malanta (to combat the acid.) Againt a generic antacid liquid will work.)

Try 2 parts anti-fungal and hydro-cortizone with 1 part of the other two. I mix them together in a small plastic dish with a lid. I find a small whisk works but best but you can use a fork.

As for another poster mention of cornstarch, I've used it for a little while but it seemed temporary and messy (never really healing). I've been told it can also result in a yeast infection if used too often.

Good luck!
