Hi Everyone,

I am planning a road trip with my husband and four kids this august, no more than 8 hours away for about a five day stay. We were thinking of mabey east coast beach area. Does anyone have ANY suggestions. We have recently drove to Niagra Falls and Washington D.C. so we are up to anything!!

What can I do next?

We are also looking and we were referred to Lake of the Ozarks in MO. We found and talked to Arrowpoint Resort. Look it up. It is fantastic. It has everything and it is in an area that if you enjoy more of the rustic type of vacation, it is there. We loved it because it was kid friendly, but had resort amenities. Surrounded by nature, beautiful environment, everything my family needs to call it a vacation. FYI: We were told it is an 8 to 9 hour drive from Chicago. I also have young children, 5,3 and 1.

Beaches on the west coast of Michigan are great! We love the Sleeping Bear Dunes area in NW MI which is about a 6ish hour drive. We have stayed just outside the National Park boundaries and there are many cute cabins for rent there along with houses -- some on smaller lakes. Overall, there is a lot to see and do for all ages while "getting away from it all." The Traverse City area is also nice, but we've only driven through and not stayed there. Good luck & happy travels!

Hi T., I just want to let you know that I (a mother of a six yr. old) grew up in Branson/Springfield, MO. I was reading a response to Lake of the Ozarks, and that is a great area for your family. I grew up there and enjoyed going there visiting as a young child (before we made MO our home). Lake of the Ozarks is anywhere from 5 to 6 hours away, it is a straight through and beautiful drive. Mind you 55 (the highway you would take here in Illinois) is a little boring, but once you get onto 44 (highway in MO) it is so pretty and your children would definitely enjoy. Just some friendly advise.

I am new to Mama source. I am 23 years old raising a 6 year old. I have been on many trips, but my family lives in Missouri. I hope you find the perfect solution to your question, and I hope this helps.

Thanks,

T.
