So last year we took our first weekend get away our first time away from the kids ever ( 9 years of parenthood). We want to go to cities we have never been to before and we are looking for places that are romantic, beautiful and unique. The trips are for us to unwind relax and focus on enjoying things we enjoy as a couple. Great unique dining, live music, history, the outdoors, spa time, I like history my DH is so so on history interest.

Question: Sedona AZ or Santa Fe NM and why?

Thank you!

What can I do next?

I have been to both as well. I say Santa Fe, because it is everything you are looking for.

I suggest you google the santa fe calendar to see what is going on the weekend you are there. That way you can plan your weekend accordingly.

Santa Fe, has excellent cozy restaurants, art shops, culture, bars, live bands, sometimes street bands, sometimes mariachis, sometimes art exhibits in the street, art galleries, & shopping.

My warning, hotels jump from 2 starts to 4.5 stars quick! I don't know that they have a 3 star hotel and I don't care what the ratings say.

My favorite hotel is La Fonda. Every room is unique and sometimes they pull my name up and tell me the penthouse is empty and they are going to upgrade me...Yay!

I've been to both and for reasons I cannot explain would go Santa Fe.

Santa Fe more cultural, shopping, artsy, foody,

Sedona more nature, hikes, and new agie.

All depends on your particular accommodations though. I'm sure Sedna has some killer resorts if you can afford them.

Never been to Sedona but we planned on spending a week in Santa Fe for part of our honeymoon. We left after a couple of days. It's nothing but a tourist trap nowadays. It's like walking through money grubbers when you walk down a street.

The museums are fun but again, it's geared to get you to buy stuff in the gift shop. I hated it. I went in college and it was nice but now it's...creepy.

They just reopened the museum in Santa Fe. Check out the opera if you into that. There are old and new areas to the city so get a map or gps. It is a city but there is a downtown square that sells Native American jewelry and other items.

Sedona is more for the person who enjoys the outdoors and hiking. Another thought might be Taos as it is a combination of the others. Just make sure you don't get altitude sickness due to the height.

Enjoy your time as a couple.

Okay, I may be biased, but I love Sedona! Check out the Junipine resort (no personal affiliation, I just love this place). There is a ton of great art, you can't beat the scenery, and the whole town is just relaxing. There are lots of great spas, hikes, restaurants. Let us know where you go and how you like it! Such a great idea to keep your marriage healthy ;)
