Hi...this is my first time posting anything so bear with me. I am looking for winter clothes for my baby girl. We are stationed at Incirlik AB, Turkey and are going straight from here to Elmendorf AB, Alaska. I can't find winter clothes here because it is hot most of the year and I have been scouring online for winter clothes but can't seem to find any since we are in the middle of summer. I have been on ebay and haven't been able to find reliable people that are selling good secondhand winter clothes for her. A friend of mine suggested I post on here since people are always wanting to make space and get rid of outgrown children's clothes, so here I am. I am really getting worried because I don't want to have to worry about running out and buying clothes as soon as we get to the states because she is freezing. She is my first and only and I know I am being a little paranoid, but I can't help it. If anyone can help us out with either clothes or maybe websites that sell winter clothes for cheap, we would greatly appreciate it.

What can I do next?

Hi there,
I am at Incirlik too but am actually from Alaska. Just get a few things because you will have so much fun shopping in Anchorage. There are a couple malls.

Any questions feel free to e-mail me :)

I may have some clothes, and i also have a lambsfur blanket that you lay under them in their beds, or the stroller it keeps them warm. My friend who just PCSed to Alaska bought one of those and she said it was th best!!!
We are in heidelberg germany and I only used it when baby was born but it was way too warm.
if interested i can send pics.
Also I would recommend getting stockings you know those warm type of long johns!!! Here in germany i see so many kids with it and we have a bunch too!!! I have two girls so I have bunch of stuff.

Have you checked out the thrift shop here? Also keep an eye on the Incirlik classifieds, people are always having yard sales or PCS sales. But a friend of mine just got to Elmendorf and she has been going on and on about the size of the Bx there and all the places to shop. She says Anchorage is huge and there's plenty of places to go shopping and even the Bx itself has way more selection than the one here. If I were you, I would just buy her a few winter things to get by on and wait till you get to Alaska to shop for the rest of her stuff. I'm sure it'll be easier to find warm clothes there any time of the year anyway. Plus, I'm sure there will be much more selection than our options here, with either the BX or online shopping, lol. And I don't think you're being paranoid :-) Its good to want to be prepared. Good luck finding the clothes and with your PCS!!

M.,

In my opinion you have nothing to worry about, as long as you get her a winter coat before you leave there and some long pants everything else should be purchased there...
It has been years and years, but my dad was Army and I use to live in that area and if I can recall correctly there is plenty of shopping in Anchorage! Even the BX will have a good selection of clothes. I use to love to shop there as a teen and there is a wonderful mall and probably more now downtown that has a Nordstrom and lots of other stores that have cute baby girl clothes! So what I suggest is have a little something but save money specifically for shopping and buy her clothes when you get there because in Alaska in the winter there is nothing else to do but shop anyway!LOL There also was a little mall close to base that was very small but had a lot of discount stores and reasonably priced stores. To me it is best to buy clothes there anyway because they will truely keep her warm like snow suits and stuff seem to accomodate better when bought there because they target the weather for that area...
Have fun there it is a wonderful area, tried to tell my hubby to get there at least for a year and he refuses! Cannot really blame him though when we moved from there when I was a teen I was ready to go...
Sorry I cannot be more help as to where to buy clothes.
