My husband and I are looking to get away for a few days. We are looking to drive somewhere that is within 2-3 hours from the chicagoland area. We have a four month old baby that we will be bringing. It would be nice if there is a beach nearby. Does anyone have recommedations of a resort or vacation spot that is kid friendly?

My brother-in-law rents out a very nice house in Galena, IL. It's in "the Territory" of Galena. It sounds like this might be a good match for what you're looking for. I don't know the exact details about price, etc..., but you can ask him via email and I think he has a web link where you can see actual photos of the place. I have been there and it's a really nice, clean, well-taken care of house. His name is John and his email address is ____@____.com
Good Luck and have a nice get-away :)

Hi M.,

Lake Geneva is less than two hours from the city, has a nice clean beach and has lots of B&B's. The Cove Hotel is nice...it's all suites - you have a kitchen and a separate bedroom so your baby could be in there while you two relax - remember that? I recall the rooms being one or two stories and there are balconies and fireplaces. Go to lakegenevawi.com for more info. Oh yea, there are also lots of nice places to just drive around and look at - Stevens Point is beautiful.

Saugatuck, MI (2 1/2 hrs)
next to Oval Beach & Douglas, Michigan.
I go there every year with my husband and daughter.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, it's a big midwest gay destination, so if you have any problems with that, I wouldn't recommend it.
We stay at Mason Street Inn (downtown),
but there are all kinds of B&B's and private cottages.
Check out their tourism sight.
Good Luck!

Hi M., we love going to Galena, IL. it is only a 3 hour drive straight west. they have a big resort called Eagle Ridge where you can rent houses. you can also stay at a number of bed and breakfast places in town. the town is very historic and so cute. if you like antique shopping it is the place for you. there a number of kids things to do as well like horse back riding, swimming, etc.

Wisconsin Dells is another great place. we just went there this past weekend. it is about 3-4 hours away. we rented a cabin in the woods then travelled to the number of water parks they have during the day. we also went on an awesome canoe trip.

good luck!

Try Beachwalk in Michigan City, Indiana - we just went there for a weekend at a friend's cottage; it has everything you mentioned! You can rent a cottage, community pool and Lake Mich beach in walking distance. Google it. Good luck.

My husband and I and our 3 month-old went to to Kohler, WI recently. The drive took about 2.5 hours from Chicago. There are 2 hotels in Kohler. There's the American Club (I think that's the name) and it is significantly more expensive than the place we stayed, which is called The Inn on Woodlake. They provided us with a nice, small crib for our baby. The main draw to this area is a very nice spa run by Kohler (everything in the town is run by Kohler) and some very good golf courses. My husband and I basically traded off taking care of the baby and going to the spa. On our way out of town, we stopped at a nearby state park with a beach, so there is one close by. Another close by place that we thought about going to was the Osthoff. Hope this helps!

Now I have not been here BUT many people I know love Saugatuck, Michigan. One of my friends swears by a B&B called Sherwood Forest there. But I think there are lots of nice ones. My husband and I, before baby, went to Kohler, Wisconsin. No beach at Kohler but you can drive 10 minutes to a beach. They do have pools, golf, and spa. Nice but I think maybe Saugatuck is more what you are after. Have a great trip!
