Seeking OBGYN Dealing with Very High Risk Pregnancy

Despite a necessary hysterectomy 4 years ago, we just found out that I'm apparently pregnant (YEAH). We're still spinning from the news and are still researching what this means. It's not too common (about 1 in 100,000 for this specific situation).

I've been advised to seek out an OBGYN very quickly, and preferably one that deals in high risk pregnancy. Since the baby isn't in the fallopian tube (placenta is attached to the outside of the ovary), it's currently not fatal, and there have been viable cases. We're still trying to understand it all before making any decisions, but would like to find a doctor that would be willing to discuss both realities with us (keeping it in me as long as possible vs. not continuing the pregnancy). We (I) want to be SURE that there's zero chance of viability before we (I) would be willing to allow it to be terminated. I would not judge or blame anyone else who felt differently in the same situation, but for me, I want to keep it as long as I can if there is any chance of the baby surviving. My husband is more concerned for my health.

I would also like to respectfully ask that any responses keep in mind that this is already extremely emotional and difficult. We have had three failed adoptions in the past year and that only makes this decision that much more difficult.

What can I do next?

I saw Dr. Dorine Day at Lutheran Hospital. ###-###-#### I loved her! I've never had a doctor who was so knowledgeable or who cared so much about patients' health -- ob health and general. She taught me so much, and because of her, I'm being treated for a life-threatening condition I never knew I had. She's great! In case you need a referral, the doctor who referred me was Dr. MacArthur Hill. He'll be completely honest with you about viability. His number is ###-###-####. GL! I hope everything works out for you. I understand the pain of wanting a baby and not having one! Doctor's like Dr. Day had a lot to do with our kids being here today. I wish I could have had her for all my pregnancies.

I don't know of any specific OBGYNs that deal with your situation, however you might try University of Colorado hospital. It's off Colfax and I-225. It is a teaching hospital, and they have some of the best doctors in the nation working there. It's at least a place to start.

Good Luck to you.

C.,
I also suggest contacting University Hospital, they are wonderful and very knowledgeable when it comes to high risk. I was transported by ambulance there from another hospital who could not deal with my specific issues. The antepartum unit was great, and when my son was born, the NICU staff was very supportive. I know they have a clinic that sees OB patients, not just emergency transfers like me... Good luck, I will be thinking of you and your husband.
