Hello - I am a new member and due with our first baby in the end of April. I've been dragging my feet on the pediatrician thing. I'm looking for a ped. who is flexible on the vaccination schedule (we are delaying vaccinations due to various health histories on both sides of the family) and also takes a more holistic/natural approach to treating common childhood illnesses. Other than that I don't have many requirements in terms of office hours etc. Thanks for any recommendations!

Hi Amy,

We have postponed immunizing our twin daughters because of a family history of autism... Our doctor, John Vaikutis in Bartlett, is a family physician that our whole family sees. He is a great listener, and very responsive to our concerns about immunizing our kids. Our son (almost 11) did receive immunizations, but has not received boosters b/c we had Titer's (not sure of spelling) to check his immunity levels and they were sufficient.

So far, our 4 year old twins have not had any immunizations, and Dr. Vaikutis has been very supportive in allowing us the lead in deciding when and how to proceed with vaccinating our kids. He is very down to earth, has a young family, too, and easy to talk to.

If you'd like more info, just let me know.

We love Dr. Baker and Dr. Charo from Pediatric solutions. I really like that there are only two doctors, and they really know all of their patients. We came from a practice with eight doctors. I felt like when I was not able to see our normal doctor, the doctor had no clue who we were! I had to introduce my kids to a doctor almost everytime we went in. Let me know if you would like more info!!

I absolutely love my pediatrician. His office is called Wee Care Pediatrics and his name is Dr. Goodlow. Their phone number is ###-###-#### and address is 3335 N. Arlington Heights Road, just before Dundee Road. He is great! Answers questions...makes you feel comfortable...shows that he has time for you instead of others that are trying to rush you out of their office. I'm sure if you talk to him about your beliefs and feelings, he would respect them.

I've been using North Arlington Pediatrics for 6+ years, and although we moved 15 miles away, are still patients. They will fit you in for sick visits, you can call and talk with a nurse asap during any office hours, and get call backs from the doctor on call very quickly (outside of offce hours). We don't specify one doctor when making appts (there are probably seven on staff?), but of course there are some we like better than others. Look for compatability with which hospital your insurance covers and the doctor you choose. I don't know where NAP stands on vaccine choice.

I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend them. They're on Arl Hts Road just south of Thomas, and phone # is 847/253-3600.

Congratulations and best wishes!

North Arlington Pediatrics is great! They have maybe 8 dr's so you'll probably find at least one you like. I'm not sure if any in particular are more natural in approach, but I never had any of them push me to do anything.
