Hey moms, so this is not a normal thing I ask about, but my husband and I were talking about this and actually he had this question. We do not engage in this, it just isn't appealing to us at all. But a really great friend of his does with his wife. They were just joking around and his friend just made one funny comment that during the cycle was the best time. And apparently his friend isn't the only one. It's amazing what dudes might discuss after a couple beers ;). So anyway, do any of you mind sharing if this is fine with you or a no go. Like no details are necessary or anything, we were just wondering if we are the weird ones!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow ladies, thanks for sharing! Very enlightening, I read the responses to my husband and we were surprised by all the yes votes! But hey, to each their own! Thanks for participating in our curiosity!! Happy Monday! :)

To me, it's gross and I have no interest. But there is nothing medically harmful in it. That's ridiculous.

My DH and I used to not mind about 10 years ago but as i am getting older, i find that things i used to do when i was in my 20's are not very appealing to me anymore. I really get grossed out by the smell and the mess it makes so that would be a no for us too.

There is one "medical" reason not to, especially if you use tampons. If there are even slight scratches or tears in you or on him, HIV (and maybe other STDs?) can be passed more easily.

It is absolutely NOT medically harmful!! Geesh...talk about an old wives tale! lol

It is absolutely a matter of personal preference. I always found a towel 'under' was very helpful, and a shower before, during or after was very enjoyable.

To each their own!

You mean having sex while you are having your period?
It's the same as any other time as long as you both wash up so you don't leave blood stains on bedding or clothing afterward.
If Hubby doesn't wash well enough dried blood might make him a little itchy later on.
You can get pregnant anytime you have sex if you are not using birth control.
There's nothing harmful about it.
You can Google this and get plenty of info.
It's not weird so much as it's just a matter of preference.

Additional:
There's a lot of hocus pocus and folklore.
In a hunting society you don't want the smell of blood on you so your prey smells you.
(Got to wonder about that because if you've ever smelled guys coming home from a hunting trip - they reek from miles away anyway - I can't imagine that a little scent of blood is going to make any difference one way or the other.)
Swimming while menstruating in shark infested water is probably not a good idea.
Prostate cancer from having sex during menstruation?
I doubt it.
Some cultures are rather hemophobic.
Maybe it's a convenient excuse to set aside a little 'I don't have to have sex if I don't want to' time.
But if you want to? - there's no reason not to.

I've never been with a guy who found that to be limiting - so yes, have always had sex during a cycle. Definitely not medically harmful. Of all my close girlfriends (ones I would talk to about that stuff - approximately 8) only one has an issue having sex while on her period.

It depends on how heavy the flow is. Light days--great. Heavy--heck no! Actually, it is a great way to relieve cramps.

Things do tend to be more sensitive during ones cycle so sex can be nice, but who wants the mess? That is why I was happy to discover instead soft cups, they allow for mess free sex during your cycle.

Added after reading other comments:
It seems some have given you some wrong information. There is no medical reason not to have sex during your period, and having an orgasim during that time can actually help lesson symptoms of PMS and cramping for many woman.

Intercourse during menstruation can actually be beneficial, as it greatly reduces the amount of cramping one might experience! Yes, I/we take advantage of the opportunity. Although I agree that a towel underneath and immediate washing up are necessary.

I don't. Not to say that I haven't, but now I don't.
Just don't feel like cleaning up. I would rather cuddle up and go to sleep which you can't do after bloody sex. *cringe*
I am SO CURIOUS as to why Mariah thinks it is not medically safe??
Also, the Bible states that you are not to lay with your wife one week before OR after her period and that she is unclean during her period. Why? Because that one week that you are supposed to have sex is when you are the most fertile. God wanted people to have children so that's why he wanted people to have sex then.(which I think is silly)

The Native Indians consider it a spiritual activity to have intercourse during a woman's menses.

I think it depends upon how heavy you bleed and how high your libido is. If you both want sex, go for it, you'll need no extra lubrication. Use a dark towel and enjoy a shower afterwards.

We do.
Put a towel down, or hit the shower.
I wouldn't say it's better or worse for me than any other time. But it doesn't get in our way.

I have many, many guy friends...and not a single one of them says that Aunt Flo bothers them - or even gives them pause.

No, we don't. My cycle lasts 4 days or so. We can wait. I just don't WANT anyone down there during that time. I have no desire for that, it really grosses me out. I have no idea what my husband;'s opinion of that is, because he has never requested. I seriously doubt he'd want to. Eew.

My husband is more than willing, but I don't like it. It's just messy and I can't usually climax (because I feel icky) so it's not worth it to me. Everyone's different, you're not weird, and neither are your friends!

Good ? Now I heard this on a christian radio station. The pastor said, that men who have prostate cancer is b/c they have had sex with a women when on her period. Now I have no clue if there is some evidence behind this or if that is really true. The bible is against this practice, there must be a good reason for it. I think it has to do with our health. Isn't the period a discharge of dead blood b/c the egg didn't get fertilized. We do not practice this. I don't even want to be touched or talked to when I'm on my period. I tell my Husband CODE RED which means I'm on my period ,which means leave me alone.

(All the stuff I just read below is interesting, I guess. I'd never heard of it. My husband and I find that sex between us cures pretty much all of our ills.)

Just the though of it grosses my husband out, so it's a no for us. With other partners, it was fine and we could relax a bit more because the chance of getting pregnant was slimmer than any other time of the month. Still used birth control, but could relax a bit.
